Album Notes
Personnel: Pete Agnew (vocals, guitar, bass guitar, background vocals); Vicky Silva (vocals, background vocals); Vicki Brown, Dan McCafferty, Liza Strike, Barry St. John (vocals); Manny Charlton (guitar, synthesizer); Max Middleton (keyboards); Darrell Sweet (drums, percussion, background vocals); Simon Phillips (tabla, percussion).Recording information: AIR, London, England; Escape Studios, Kent, England.Although Nazareth had already broken into the big time in England with their 1973 release RAZAMANAZ, the band had yet to crack the U.S. market. Their stateside break came two years later in the form of 1975's HAIR OF THE DOG. By keeping to their high voltage rock formula the Scots band finally won U.S. rock fans over, though it didn't hurt that they included one slight musical departure, the melodic ballad "Love Hurts."Besides becoming a monster worldwide hit, Nazareth (for better or worse) helped create the whole power ballad format--a style adopted wholesale by numerous other bands by the late '80s. But besides "Love Hurts," HAIR OF THE DOG is a red-blooded hard rock set, as evidenced by songs such as the title track, "Miss Misery," "Changin' Times," and "Beggars Day."

Editorial Reviews
4 stars out of 5 -- HAIR OF THE DOG is quintessential '70s hard rock, typified by the title track, a gritty boogie with clunking cowbell and a screeching vocal from Dan McCafferty...

I love this. Mostly what I'd call ballads, the radio only played the title song. However, the flip-side, especially "Please don't Judas me" almost makes it necessary to pull over and ride the buzz. Similiar to Blackfoot's "Highway Song" or The Doors' "The End". This should be re-released to the newest generation, as it will always sound fresh. Beggars Day and Miss Misery, as well as the rest, are definately Crank-It-Up tunes. Let it play through, back to track one to hear again immediately. Get any of these songs in your head and people will wonder what you're smiling about. Enjoy!

Nazareth Rocks

Good old Rock and Roll lots of raspy voice " Miss Misery" is truly an unsung hero. Shadowed in popularity by "Hair of the Dog" and "Love Hurts" but in my opinion "Miss Misery" is the best of NAZARETH full blown extreme pour your soul into it Performance NOt played on the raido worth every penny spent Miss Misery should be in every true Rockers Library worn out then replaced again.

Nazareth Hair of the Dog Bought this album again on cd

One of the best heavy metal albums ever. The Love Hurts single was pretty much par for the course back then; the record companies were all about the rock love songs that were selling like hotcakes then. The rest of the album is pure rock and roll and is worth the money, whatever you have to pay for it!
