Halloween (DVD, 2003, 2-Disc Set, 25th Anniversary Edition; Hi-Definition Transfer)

John Carpenter, Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis|Theatrical release: 1978 | Rating: R (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, HALLOWEEN takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his hometown to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night. Produced for very little money and a tight shooting schedule, HALLOWEEN was a stunning success when it was released. Written by John Carpenter and his longtime producer Debra Hill, the film set their careers on fire, with both of them working together many times over the next 25 years. The film also made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis and turned the slasher movie into a viable, successful genre. HALLOWEEN has been copied, parodied and even turned into a franchise of its own, but the original is still considered the best of the bunch. HALLOWEEN was John Carpenter's first foray into horror, and remains the standard to which all other modern horror films are measured.

"Great DVD Of Horror Classic!"

Created: 29/11/09
Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis star in John Carpenter's
1978 horror film. A doctor hunts an escaped killer stalking a
girl and her friends. The color timing on some of the scenes
is different and has made people upset because it's not the
same one Dean Cundey supervised. Don't worry, picture and
sound are nice plus there's neat extras. This is a great dvd
set, but I hope we get a definitive dvd one day because this
horror classic has been released enough times.

Halloween 25th Anniversary Edition

Created: 22/02/08
The "Halloween 25th Anniversary Edition" DVD is a great buy. It came packaged, brand new and is a total bargain. The movie has been "cleaned up" digitally so that the picture is clear and brilliant. There is an extra DVD of special footage explaining a lot about how this horror classic was made. An exceptional bargain and a great addition to any DVD library. Its well worth the $$ for the purchase, because of the clarity of the film and all the extra features. Its the disturbing images in the movie that provide the "scare" factor, along with the creepy music and over-acting teenagers. If you've never seen it you should. Its really scary.

Like Camp Crystal Lake, Haddonfield's no vacation spot.

Created: 03/06/07
Before a murderous mama's boy sporting a hockey mask discovered his calling in the afterlife was dismembering hapless horny teens, there was an equally mindless psychopath spawned who got his kicks out of slicing up babysitters & citizens in his hometown of Haddonfield. Halloween was not only the milestone of John Carpenter's career: it was a seminal stepping stone to the slasher genre. Often imitated but never replicated, Carpenter crafted a film thick on atmosphere, minimal on gore & introduced the world to an unforgettable horror icon: Michael Myers, a jumpersuit wearing maniac with a fetish for spraypainted William Shatner masks (seriously) & butcher knife wielding.

its the original slasher flick. i bought it cause im a big horror fan. wanted the one movie that started it all. also its the very first movie of jamie lee curtis's career. i highly recommend this to any horror fan who has not seen it. even though the new rob zombie remakes are very good, nothing compares to the original.

The Night He Came Home!

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Created: 08/07/10
John Carpenter (ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE THING) redefines the horror genre with this breakout shocker about an escaped mental patient who begins his reign of terror with a determined psychiatrist (Donald Pleasence) close behind.

There is nothing I could say about HALLOWEEN except it is masterpiece of horror that works on many levels of chilling suspense accompanyied with Carpenter's signature creepy score.

HALLOWEEN terrified not only horror fanatics, but broke new ground in the genre itself influencing the FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series, along with an avalanche of imitation blood-spattering gorefests.

The film's massive success spawned seven sequels, a 2007 remake, along with its far-fetched sequel. But my advice would be is to stick with The One, The Only...HALLOWEEN.

DIVIMAX EXTRAS INCLUDE: Audio commentary by Carpenter, producer Debra Hill, and Jamie Lee Curtis, HALLOWEEN-A CUT ABOVE THE REST documentary, ON LOCATION-25 YEARS LATER featurette, talent bios, poster and still galleries, trailer, & TV and radio spots.
