Product description

Synopsis
Although the text is very matter of fact, this story about a young boy named Harold is full of imagination and adventure. One night, Harold decides to go for a moonlit walk, and so, using his seemingly magical purple crayon, he draws himself a moon and a path, and sets off on his adventure. As he walks on, Harold draws himself such things as a very small forest, a fierce dragon, a sailboat, and even a picnic meal consisting solely of his nine favorite types of pie. Eventually, Harold gets lost, but by using the moon as his guide, he manages to find his way safely back home. In the simple illustrations, Harold is depicted in shades of brown and white while his drawings are, of course, shown in purple. First published in 1955, HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON is a classic homage to the powers of imagination and art. The character of Harold appears in several other picture books including HAROLD'S FAIRY TALE and A PICTURE FOR HAROLD'S ROOM.

This book is very adventurous and imaginative. Harold goes on a journey that he creates himself with his trusty purple crayon and the ending is quite sweet too. My daughter grabbed a purple crayon and started drawing her own adventures after reading this book! Awesome read for a preschooler!

Harold and the Purple Crayon

This is a child's reader I have loved for many years. I loved it when I was a little boy and I raised my twin boys on this same wonderful story. In fact I read it to them so often they would say some of the words of the story even before they learned to talk. Now when I can't sleep they get and read it to me.

This is a great book to get in hardcover because you will use it alot if you have children of your own. If you are a children's literature collector you will want to look at older hard to find copies to invest in. For the rest of us this is a beloved favorite baby gift, but an even better first grader book. If you have a slow reader this book will help those who are struggling to read the opportunity to read a BIG book and for reasons I do not know it is often a "boy" favorite. The language is not babyish or unfriendly to adults so it will be a great laptime read for uncles and aunts to read as fill in bedtime readers.
