‘Harold and the Purple Crayon, Let Your Imagination Soar’ is a good DVD that includes a group of seven Harold stories that have especially fun and imaginative themes.

In these stories Harold explores the vivid places he has created with his purple crayon, and some of the familiar friends from other Harold stories like the baby squirrels, the porcupine, and Lilac are there also. As it is described on the back cover, “It is not the crayon that is magic. The crayon is merely the key to unlock the power of Harold’s imagination.”

my 2 1/2 yr old son really loves this movie. There are not many Harold and the Purple Crayon movies out there, so this is a refreshing change from our old one. The cartoons are very well done, and the story lines and plots are great for all ages. I love the fact that he learns something with each story (how to share, help others, be kind).

The children in our family enjoy the Harold and the Purple Crayon series because they are calming, very knowledgeable and mostly teach the value of sharing and communicating. Beautifully written and drawn, Sharon Stone's narration makes the perfect package or children of all ages!

My child loves Harold, and he's a 5 year old boy. It's refreshing to see that good imaginative storytelling can hold his attention as much as Marvel characters! This is perfect for mellowing out an active day. He loves the songs as well. Highly recommend any of these dvds.

I have to stipulate that this is a review of a VHS of Harold and the Purple Crayon, not the DVD, and it has only 2 episodes of the 12 episode series (the pilot episode of the series and Harold in the Dark). Putting that aside, Harold and the Purple Crayon in any format, written or animated, is a personal heartfelt favorite of mine, particularly now that I have small children. As anyone knows, the HBO produced series differs substantially from the older Scholastic pieces, which were much like live motion versions of the book. I think this new series is captivating in its own rite, and unlike a lot of children's programs I've sat through, I've been entertained by this series; the animation, music, and the narration by Sharon Stone, who I think I actually prefer as a voice actor. I don't know what Crockett Johnson would have thought of this adaptation of his character and literature, but this series congregates the whimsy and joyfulness of imaginative childhood with an almost angelic innocence in the character of Harold, and it really struck a chord with me.
