Emotional Climax of the Season 1

The popular anime series "Jigoku Shoujo" (Hell Girl) is one of my favorites of all time with dark, psychological, and horror elements of old-time Japan meshed with modern-day lives of everyday people. Although most of the episodes in the series are episodic, meaning that each episode's story concludes in the less-than-30-minutes frame, there is a larger story that runs through the Season 1 of this series, and this larger story comes to a rousing conclusion on this final volume of the DVD. Whereas the other volumes of DVD's are easy to watch one episode at a time, the volume 6 with the final 4 episodes of the Season 1, where Hell Girl's origin and her story are revealed, compels you to watch it all in one sitting.
English dub by Funimation is, for the most part (at least for the main characters), true to the mood and character that were set by the original Japanese voice cast (*Author of this review is a native-born Japanese.). Art and music are all beautiful in this series. There are 2 beautiful bonus art cards included in each DVD volume.
Season 2 is set to be released in US on May 25, 2010. I'm looking forward to getting myself a complete set.

Hell Girl Movie Better Than Expected
Created: 07/07/10
I originally purchased this movie series of Hell Girl for my 14 year old daughter. Although after observing my daughter watching some of the episodes of the movie series, just to make sure that the movie will not be a bad influence for my daughter. I found myself to be very intrerested with the story line of the movies. Latter on I was very intriuged with the stories in the series. At first we only bought 5 DVDs. When we finished to watch all five DVDs I found myself to ask my daughter if there were more episodes available, then she told me there was one more DVD available that was not included in the first five DVDs. When I realized that there was one more DVD available I told my daughter that we should buy that one DVD as well to complete the 6 DVD set. I used it as an excuse to buy the last 6th DVD but in reality I really enjoyed all of the episodes in the Hell Girl DVD set. It was certainly better than I expected it to be.

Awesome installment

Unlike the previous volumes, which had separate stories... this volume deals with Hell Girl's past and connects to the life of the reporter [the main character]. It's a very good volume and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the last 5 volumes as this one wraps up the story in a nice little package.
