Movie synopsis

A 1960s-era Mississippi debutante sends her community into an uproar by conducting a series of probing interviews with the black servants behind some of her community's most prominent families. Skeeter (Emma Stone) has just graduated from college, and she's eager to launch her career as a writer. In a moment of inspiration, Skeeter decides to focus her attention on the black female servants who work in her community. Her first subject is Aibileen (Viola Davis), the devoted housekeeper who has been employed by Skeeter's best friend's family for years. By speaking with Aibileen, Skeeter becomes an object of scorn to the wealthy locals, who view her actions as directly challenging to the established social order. Before long, even more servants are coming forward to tell their stories, and Skeeter discovers that friendship can blossom under the most unlikely of circumstances. Bryce Dallas Howard co-stars in a touching tale of race relations based on author Kathryn Stockett's best-selling novel of the same name.

The Help (DVD, 2011)

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Help is the best film I have seen this year. This film is about the examples of accepted racism in the early sixties, but it is also about the friendship between women. I like the way director Tate Taylor deals with both subjects equally well.

There is a very beautiful song included in the film. It is entitled "The Living Proof". It is performed by R and B singer Mary J. Blige. This is such a moving song about enduring hard times but still having a sense of dignity about life. The soundtrack also includes classic songs by Chubby Checker and Frankie Valli, but the new Blige song is definitely the highlight in regards to the music.

The performances by Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are excellent. They are two black maids who both work for white families. They cook, clean and raise other people's children. These maids do their jobs do their jobs with such dignity. I admire these fictional characters. They seem like real people to me. These actresses bring the characters of a novel to life on screen. Emma Stone plays an aspiring writer who documents the experiences of these two women in a book entitled The Help. Bryce Dallas Howard plays a racist white woman. Jessica Chastain plays another white female character with a much softer heart. Sissy Spacek gives the movie a humorous element with her performance. I laughed and cried watching The Help. The Help is an excellent film. A must see.

This is by far the most remarkable movie I've ever seen in a long time - very accurate accounts!!! Having been a product of the initial desegragation of schools in my state, I experienced first hand, severe victimization efforts. However, after much emotional healing, I discovered that I was feeling the same emotions that their race had... As I grew from this whole effort, I had many dedicated friends from other races. The movie is so loaded with realities, I had to watch it more than once to see them. I guess when I view it again, I will see more. Thank you for such a powerful reality film.

The""BEST""; movie of the year !!! The way it really was in the south in the 50's. The whole story is so true & every word is exactly the way people thought & acted then. The whole movie brought me back to when my family had a "Black" maid. Lulu was a great person to me & I remember my Mom paying her $20 for 4 days work. I remember the $20 because I thought I wanted to grow-up & make big money like that ! Buy "The Help" its a Great Movie !!

This is a great movie. I also read the book and the movie certainly follows the book, unlike some movies. It's happy, sad and such a wonderful story about the lives in the South of wealthy families and their interactions with their "Help" or maids as told by "The Help." Highly recommend!
