Industry Reviews
"Hoffman's fans won't be disappointed by the airy-fairy 'Here on Earth,' her 12th novel, which weaves all of Hoffman's usual themes into a dreamy, intricate family melodrama, complete with alcoholism, wife-beating, obsessional love and whiffs of murder....Still, this novel's comfy, confident voice is enough to lure you into an armchair for the better part of an evening....It's curiously pleasurable, and reading it induces only a minimum of guilt."
Salon - Courtney Weaver (09/09/1997)

"[D]ark and wonderful....Alice Hoffman has never seen deeper inside her characters....'Here on Earth' is Alice Hoffman's most powerful and moving novel to date, and one of the finest fictional explorations of family love..."
Washington Post Book World - Howard Frank Mosher (08/31/1997)

"At the end of 'Wuthering Heights,' someone viewing the graves of Heathcliff and Catherine wonders how anyone could imagine unquiet slumbers for the lovers resting in that quiet earth. Despite the many wonders that Hoffman has unearthed, you can only wish that she had left them rest in peace."
San Francisco Chronicle Book Review - Alix Madrigal (08/24/1997)

"Daringly old-fashioned, Hoffman's writing is wholesome without being proselytising or dull."
Literary Review - Deborah Bosley (10/01/1997)

I read this book almost non stop in 3 days!

Created: 11/11/07
This book remains one of my favorites. I honestly couldn't put it down, it was one of those addictive books. I feel like the characters still stay with me and I think about them since readinbg the book. I have to give Mrs. Hoffman credit, she did a very good job on capturing the many different types of relationships in the book and on covering the many different voices of all of the Characters. I am now a huge fan of hers because of this book.

Oprah's Book Club comes through again! This was an absolute great read! Fast paced, page turner, that leaves you thinking at the end of the story! Purchased it because it was part of the Oprah Book Club and I have read most of her picks and have been completely satisfied. Hope you enjoy this one too.
