Heroes of Might and Magic IV (PC, 2002)

As a fan of Heroes 3 for many years I finally got to play this title, and wow was I impressed. Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a turn-based game and in this version takes a bigger emphasis on the Heroes part in this copy having your hero fight alongside your troops.

One of my favorite enhancements to this version is being able to split your troops from your heros so you aren't constantly running back for reinforcements. This also is a great way to scout out your enemies and garrison areas. With all the many artifacts to collect, levels to gain and enemies to conquer you can be looking at nights devoted to this great game.

Sure the graphics have been enhanced from previous versions and fighting in the many different types of terrain in battles is great...but the graphics could have been improved for a 2002 title. Some other turn-based games around the time of this games release looked a whole lot prettier. Thankfully the music and sounds are still excellent. I also didn't quite like the idea of being limited to which creatures I could make in a certain base. Making crusaders for instance prevented you from making angels and so on.

That being said, get ready for hours of fun in this amazing title that will be loved by Heroes fanatics like myself and most any turn-based fan!

The Heroes of Might and Magic series has been around for a while and is still one of my favorites. This is a "turn based" RPG(Role Playing Game), which simply means that you take your turn to build characters, castles, make moves; and then the CPU takes it's turn. Heroes has so many different scenarios built into it that you can play 100 times and not get the same outcome. This latest version has better graphics and has expanded upon it's characters and can be played online with friends.

If you liked previous versions, you'll enjoy this most recent encarnation.

If you've never played Heroes before, be prepared to get hooked.

Heroes of might and magic 4 is a classic game. I love playing for hours on end. The graphics are not as fancy as modern games but who needs fancy graphics when game play is by far the best I have seen in a turn-by-turn fantasy game. A friend and I will play this game all night against each other until the early hours of the morning. this is a must have game if you enjoy these types of games.

For those who haven't played a previous episode of the Heroes games, Heroes IV is a turn based strategic game that involves building your kingdom and completing quests in a picturesque fantasy world.

The big change in Heroes IV is that heroes are now taking a more active role in the battles. They are an actual unit now that also has his/her turns. The heroes will take the field alongside your other creatures.

That I don't like about Heroes IV is that the graphics is not that good. And there’s not enough maps for it to download. So I would highly recommend you to get Heroes V instead of IV.

Good game. I have heroes 3 and heroes 5 already, and while I like this a lot more than heroes 5, heroes 3 still trumps it. Overall, I think that the idea of making heroes into actual units in the game like heroes 4 does takes away from the game. It kinda takes away the benefit of having a melee hero, because they become a huge target. This is especially true in the campaigns, where you end up with a tank hero that becomes a punching bag for every enemy if you actually use him. Plus, the 3d graphics are different, but in my opinion, not better looking than the ones in heroes 3. The towns just don't end up looking as cool. All of them seem to look like stepped hills with modular buildings on them, not as realistic as heroes 3. If you liked any of the heroes games, this is one that shouldn't be missed, but Heroes 3 is a much better game.
