History Channel Presents - Life After People (DVD, 2008)

Movie synopsis

Some state-of-the-art special effects work brings a disturbing vision of the future to life in this History Channel presentation. LIFE AFTER PEOPLE takes a look at what would happen to everything left behind on Earth if the human race was annihilated. The program makers consulted structural engineers, who demonstrate how landmarks such as the Sears Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge would simply wither and ultimately collapse in a future world without humans. The show also examines how the animal kingdom and the natural world would adapt to this human-less future, and ponders how quickly the various records of our existence on Earth would decay. A real-life example of this possible future is accounted for by a close analysis of the area around Chernobyl, which remains uninhabitable 22 years after the explosion at a nuclear power plant. But the most impressive feature of LIFE AFTER PEOPLE is the incredible effects work, which provide an all-too-real depiction of what the planet may look like in the future.

An interesting documentary about a world without humans

Created: 05/03/11
First off I had never seen anything out there before that touch on this subject so when I came across the documentary I couldn't help but purchase it. The idea of what the world would be like tomorrow if the human race was completely wiped out. How long would it take the earth to reclaim herself? How long would it take for all traces of man to disappear? How would our now domesticated animals get along without us to support and take care of them? This documentary gives a very well thought out idea of how things would play out over the first several years after man was no longer walking our planet. They even use the city in the Ukraine that was abandoned after the Nuclear meltdown of a reactor in a power plant and the obvious signs of how quickly mother nature can repair and heal herself of the affects of mankind.

How would the world be if humans instantly disappeared?

This is a great illustration of how the world would be without humans. It starts off by giving us a view of how it would be without hours after, then a few days, then a few months, then a few years. Ultimately it continues into hundreds of years without humans. It is well produced, well edited, the animations are done well. It compares portions of Chernobyl with their theories of how a city would be after years without humans. Since Chernobyl has been without people for over 20+ years, it offers a great comparision with this movie's theories. Life After People gives an in depth analysis with our buildings, structures, pets, food, animals, etc. And it keeps asking the question "What would happen to our buildings/pets/food/animals years after people are gone?" It gives specific examples on what would happen to the "Space Needle", the "Hoover Dam", New York City, and other popular structures/destinations. I rate this a strong must see.

A mind-boggling documentary. Despite man's ability to carve out an existence on
this planet, it all collapses within a few thousand years, a blink of the eye in
astronomical time. the documentary does not answer one key question: what happened to man on earth. Where did he go, if he even survived. The most
intriguing aspect of the documentary is the way animals reclaim the planet in
the absence of man. Life goes on in many forms, animals, birds, fish, forests
that spring up where great cities once stood. The moral may be earth is able to
survive without man. Are there other planets in space where civilizations have
vanished after "intelligent life" has departed?

this is a very interesting account of what happen to the earth if all people were removed from the planet. It shows how the earth could clean itself up quickly if people weren't around to keep messing it up.
