Includes liner notes by Ken Barnes.Personnel: The Dave Clark Five (vocals, drums, percussion); Lenny Davidson (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar); Denis Payton (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone); Rick Huxley (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar); Mike Smith (vocals, piano, organ); Dave Clark (vocals, drums, percussion).Liner Note Authors: Ken Barnes; The Dave Clark Five. For many years, the Dave Clark Five were one of the few major groups of the 1960s whose work was unavailable on compact disc. This two-disc, 50-track reissue not only rectifies that situation but arguably includes more than all but devoted fans will want to hear. All of the band's mammoth mid-'60s hits --"Glad All Over," "Bits and Pieces," "Because," "Catch Us If You Can," "Any Way You Want It," and others -- are included, and while they don't rival the work of British Invasion heavyweights like the Beatles, Stones, and Kinks, they still burst with exuberant melodies, harmonies, and dense production. This compilation also features worthy lesser-known hits like "Try Too Hard" and "Everybody Knows," as well as obscure but commendable beat ballads and raveups from their B-sides and albums. Nonetheless, there is a fair amount of filler, and their post-1966 work is undistinguished by either artistic growth or the hooks and heavy beat of their early material. But at their peak, the DC5 captured the joie de vivre of the British Invasion with a lasting power that cannot be dismissed. This reissue includes a comprehensive booklet featuring recollections from Dave Clark himself. ~ Richie Unterberger

History of The Dave Clark Five

    Created: 07/07/08
This is an awesome CD set! It contains all their greatest hits and then some. The sound is top quality. I would like to ask The Dave Clark Five why I can't just walk into any store and buy their CD's like any other group or artist? It's a darn shame that their music is not available for public sale. They would make tons of money on people just wanting to reminisce the good ole days! This CD set brought back tons of memories for me of when I was just a new teen. For whatever reason this CD is so rare, but well worth purchasing! I highly recommend it for anyone who loved this "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" group!

My wonder years were filled with a lot of really cool things . . . and one of them was The Dave Clark Five. This double CD brings the first British rock Invasion of my childhood memories back to life. The songs are a blend of great fun, adrenaline rushes, and innocent nostalgia. The Dave Clark Five were meant to rock and roll . . . and lead singer Mike Smith had one of the best voices in rock history. So . . . come on . . . let the Tottenham lads show you where it's at. The name of the place is . . . I like it like that.

This CD set, is one of the better collections, of the DC-5, that you may find. Others that I have found, do not have as many tracks, as this CD does. I would definitely recommend this CD set, to a fan of the DC-5.
