    Publisher's Note
A market leader for over 30 years, A HISTORY OF MODERN PSYCHOLOGY has been praised for its comprehensive coverage and biographical approach. Focusing on modern psychology, the text's coverage begins with the late 19th century. The authors personalize the history of psychology not only by presenting biographical information on influential theorists, but also by showing how major events in those theorists' lives have affected their ideas, approaches, and methods. Substantial updates in this edition include discussions of evolutionary psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and positive psychology. The result is a text that is as timely and relevant today as it was when it was first introduced.

    History with some interesting bits

    Created: 03/01/08
I never really liked history, but this book seemed to change my mind a little bit. It has information on the life of some important psychologists - where they came from, how they started to be interested in psychology, and what achievements they had during their lives. In some instances, the authors also included information on the psychologists' personal lives...of course, relevant information to why they were doomed in their career or how it helped them advance in their field. For example, the authors mentioned the personality and scandals of John Watson, an American psychologist, and how he was banned from the academic field because of it.

In a nutshell, it is a rather interesting history book. The only thing I would have liked to see in the content is a bit more illustrations on the timeline of the order of events and how these are related to other important psychologists. After all, it is a history book, and not a biography of a celebrity.

I purchased this book because it was required for school. It basically tells the history of Psychology. The text is not hard to read; easy to understand. My professor said that the newest edition is not required because it is the history of psychology and nothing new changed. If you have to purchase this book for class I suggest using this edition because the newer edition have pretty much the same information.

great book needed for my wife's college class, it was nice that we could use the 8th edition and not pay for the 9th edition. College books cost so much, every dollar we can save is a big help

This book was great help to my class. It was an easy read and actually enjoyable. I liked the timeline in the front of my book, I know that the newer 10th edition version of their book does not have it. That was helpful as well.

What I like about this book was that it was cheaper to buy compared to buying it in a university book store. I bought the textbook for a class I was taking in my doctoral program. What I don't like about buying the book through ebay was that it takes too long to ship to you.
