Tolkien the father of Middle Earth

Created: 06/08/10
This series is by far and away the most influential of all fantasy series. Tolkien imagined a world inhabited by orcs and ogres, light and darkness, fellowships of good and evil. I first read the story when I was 15 and was fascinated by the world of Middle Earth. I waited 10 years before I read the series again so I could 'forget as much as possible'. The second reading was deeper and more enlightening than the first!

The series stirs the imagination and has spawned many games, movies, books and the 'genre' of Middle Earth. It is nice to lose one's self in another world from time to time and Tolkien's Middle Earth and lord of the Rings is a good place to start!

Lord of the Rings

I have been a fan of Tolkien since I was a child. My original set is pretty worn out. I wanted to share my passion for this good reading to my son, but I wanted him to have a nice copy of his own. When I was looking for a box set, I didn't find what I was looking for until I found this set. I did not want the movie characters on my covers so this set was perfect with nice art work on the frond and back with original classic illustrations.
Great buy.

Tolkien Set

This is a wonderful boxed set of Tolkien books...hard to find and often high-priced. If you do not want the movie characters on your book covers (which I did NOT), this is a wonderful purchase. Very nice looking, classic illustrations. A great addition to my bookshelf!

A good read

This book series has been a favorite of mine since i was about 10 years old. Ive read the series several times and it still keeps me interested. I love fantasy and adventure and this book does it for me. Younger readers my have a harder time with the language but i dont dicourage it as i too read them. For the record these books are better than the movies they came out with.

Four book set review

Created: 31/01/09
So....the only reason that I even knew that these books existed was obviously because the movies that have been made...well asides from the Hobbit.

Since books tend to be better than the movies that are created because of them, I decided to purchase this 4 book set. I have not read all 4 books, but am seeing that like almost every other situation, the book is better than the movie.

The books have more feeling and are more descriptive than the movies. The reader receives more information on actual situations that are occuring and on the actual character's feelings and thoughts.

I just find more information appealing, therefore I find these books almost a necessity for an individual that thoroughly enjoyed the films.
