Recorded under the gentle hand of producer Lloyd Maines (front Chick Natalie's pop), these dozen cuts are devoid of any Nashville gloss and are instead steeped in the organic harmonies and twang of recent releases by Nickel Creek and Dolly Parton. With sisters Marty Maguire and Emily Robison providing instrumental support on fiddle and banjo respectively, the Chicks are equally at home ripping through the runaway breakdown "White Trash Wedding" as they are tapping into heartfelt compositions by Radney Foster ("Godspeed [Sweet Dreams]") and Patty Griffin ("Top Of The World"). With pop sensibilities that are never too far from the surface, it's no surprise that this talented trio would do such a fine job covering Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" and giving it the kind of shimmering treatment sure to put a smile on Stevie Nicks's face. Despite the duress the Dixie Chicks were toiling under, HOME proves that from turmoil comes stellar creative effort.

Forget politics, these ladies can SING!

Created: 17/10/06
"Home" is possibly the best country music CD that I have listened to since Lyle Lovett. I own all of the Dixie Chicks' albums, and Home is by far their best. Not a weak song on the entire cd, and many memorable songs like "Long Time Gone", "Travelling Soldier", "Truth #2", "White Trash Wedding", and the incredible "I Believe in Love" where Natalie's voice is truly amazing. It is rare in country music for artists to write their own songs, play instruments, and produce quality music. The Dixie Chicks are without peer in this regard, and I highly recommend this cd. You will be glad to have this in your collection. To not listen to the Dixie Chicks for political reasons will be your loss.

Chicks in the Bluegrass

Created: 21/04/06
I like the Chicks the way I like Linda Rondstadt...there ain't much they can do that sounds bad to me. They really went all the way with the Bluegrass sound here, not giving a hoot about what the mainstream "country-music" is supposed to be. If you like your country canned, this one isn't for you. If you like their voices and their harmonies(wow, does Natalie ever holler one up in track #1); if you like more challenging instrumental breaks; if you like your lyrics original and thought-provoking, then you will LOVE this CD. For every neglected wife or daughter, there's the song "Top of the World" that'll make you cry the first several times you listen to it. For the mad hen in all of us, there's Truth No. 2.: "I might get to the end of my life and find out everyone was lyin'...I don't think that I'm afraid anymore; I'd say that I would rather die tryin'." And of course, Travelin' Soldier was a big Patriotic Hit. "I Believe in Love" hits home for me, and it's one I love to sing to....obviously, I highly recommend this CD. I bought it because it's by the Dixie Chicks. I love it because it's original.

A CD Worth Having

Created: 07/08/06
I'm really not that fond of country music but even I liked this CD. Also, you know how lots of times you buy a CD and end up liking maybe the one popular song that got radio play on it but the rest is just filler? Well, this is NOT the case with this CD.
There's the remake of Stevie Nick's "Landslide". I adore Stevie Nicks and have since junior high. I didn't think anyone could do a good job on one of her songs but I have to say the Chick's managed to do it justice. There's the touching lullaby "God Speed" that anyone who is a parent will "get". Then there's "Top of the World" that will make you think if you bother to listen to the lyrics.
Lastly, there's "Travelin' Soldier", a real stand out in this outstanding collection of songs. Natalie Maine's voice has never sounded better and the exquisite harmonies and rich sounding, diverse songs set this album world's apart from the usual stuff that comes out of Music City. Give it a listen, it's a great addition to anyone's music collection.
