Movie synopsis

In the aftermath of a small town high school shooting, nine are killed and one, popular Deanna (Erika Christensen), is wounded. As students and the victims' relatives try to make sense of the situation, Deanna recuperates in the hospital. A detective (Victor Garber) is given the difficult task of laying the blame on someone, and he focuses his attention on Alicia (Busy Philipps), an intense, outsider-type student who was the only witness to the entire incident. A clearly troubled and unpopular girl, Alicia is forced by the school principal to visit Deanna daily in the hospital. While Deanna, though troubled by the ordeal, is friendly and sociable, Alicia is angry and verbally abusive. Over the course of days, however, the girls form a bond that arises out of coping with great tragedy. Small but ambitious, HOME ROOM deals with the sensitive subject of teenage gun violence sensitively and intelligently. With the intimate style of a stage play, Paul F. Ryan's screenplay attempts to examine the senseless aftermath of a school shooting, from every angle. Busy Philips's carries the film with her magnetic performance of Alicia, the troubled goth girl who hides her secrets with a tough exterior.

Movie trailer and editorial reviews

"...Ms. Christensen, in her meatiest role since TRAFFIC and Ms. Phillips dig deeply under the skins of characters who gradually emerge as far more complex than their adolescent stereotypes might suggest..."

Awesome movie!

You gotta see this movie! Has a little twist in the plot. The movie grabs your attention with it's little twist and turns. Absolutely loved Busy Philips portrayal of a misfit teen. She did a great job. With the recent events at Virginia Tech, this movie may hit home for alot of people. I know I cried. Home Room makes you feel as if you actually go to this school. A very moving film....

Professional and Reliable

This movie will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The intensity and chemistry of the two actress' is absolutely amazing, fabulous and different; offering a perspective of the psychological trauma that is brought about in the aftermath, rather than just the typical drama of a high school shooting. The two actress' are amazing and their chemistry brings the story to real life as their emotions, fears, psychological trauma and compassion will touch your heart as they work together to overcome their traumatic issues. There has never been a movie made like this in movie history. There is not a slow or lull moment in the entire movie. This movie is a must for anyone's movie collection.

Great Film

Created: 05/01/09
I purchased this movie as a gift. Both myself and the receiver of the gift have seen the film before. It is a poignant and thought-provoking piece centered around the aftermath of a school shooting. The acting skills are solid and the plot is enveloping. If memory serves, only one actor/actress has progress forward to appear in more mainstream films (i.e. Swimfan, Perfect School). Nonetheless, it is a captivating and heart-wrenching movie.

Great Movie

Created: 08/12/09
I first learned of this movie in 2000 when my friend tried out to be one of the leads. I thought the plot was great and it came out at a good time (a few years after all the school shootings). You really can connect with both of the main characters and feel the pain. The ending is surprising and powerful.

Movie Home Room

This movie deals with the after affects of a school shooting. I had seen this movie on cable and then wanted to have my own copy so that I could share this movie with others. I even had my kids sit down and watch the movie. They seemed to understand the movie much more then I did. Our children today are crying for help and this movie gives you an insight as to how they are feeling. You will not be disappointed in this movie.
