And it trains you in all the technical basics of riding for fun or competition, including how to:

  • Find a good stable and instructor
  • Select riding gear
  • Warm up and keep riding muscles fit
  • Establish a rapport with a horse
  • Cue a horse to walk, jog, trot, lope, and cantor
  • Ride in the ring and on trails
  • Improve your balance and timing
  • Compete in horse shows
  • Buy and care for your own horse

Stop dreaming about it and learn to ride like the wind with Horseback Riding for Dummies—the ultimate beginner’s guide to all things equestrian.

The dummie series hit it on the mark again. This book is chock full of useful information presented in a loose and layback way. I ride western on a horse that has had formal english training back in his glory days. I have a much better understanding of what I had considered to be his bad habits. He knows exactly what he is doing and I am beginning to catch on ---Thanks

I THINK ALL THE "FOR DUMMIES" BOOKS ARE PRETTY WELL DONE. THEY USE HUMOR TO HOLD YOUR ATTENTION. THIS BOOK IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BEGINNERS I THINK. I'VE BEEN DOING THIS AWHILE BUT I ALSO READ SOME TIPS AND IDEAS I HADN'T THOUGHT OF OR HAD THOUGHT OF IN A DIFFERENT WAY. I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR GOOD IDEAS. THIS BOOK HAS SOME.
