A great calculator for students

Created: 14/02/08
I like this calculator very much for several reasons. This is a very high quality calculator. HPs from this era were known for their ruggedness, and the numbers were actually molded into the keys so they wouldn't wear off with use. It has a sliding protective cover that won't get lost, too. It has over 600 math functions, because HP wanted to include everything a junior or high school student would need. There is even help for these functions built into the calculator. There are "aplets"available, which allow students to learn by seeing how changes in a variable or formula would affect the results. The calculator comes with a comprehensive manual, which you should definitely look for with the calculator. it's a very easy to use calculator, but it is surprisingly powerful.

An algebraic version of the HP-48 series

Created: 21/10/06
If this model is not as popular as the 48 series, it is probably because of its unique algebraic input mode. Most of users who are looking for a HP calculator are concerned about the RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) input mode that is much more efficient than the algebraic one. Nevertheless, some others, who don't like the particular working process proper to the RPN, would appreciate the 38G.

From my collector point of view, it is because this calculator is not popular that I bought one. I like the way it can be protected by a built-in hardshell cover. It is true that this model is unique in the HP calculators production and it is why that probably one day, this model will be speculated.

If you are the lucky one who already own the very exclusive famous NCTM 75th anniversary, keep it preciously and tell me where I can find one!!!

HP 38G

Created: 05/02/08
I have owned one of these for 15 years and it finally has some keys that don't work. I like it so much I found another one. This is not an RPN calc but it is HP which I have always thought were top of the line.

It is all I need from a calculator. I did not have to spend big bucks on this one and I am very happy with it. It helped me to go throughout collage. Will keep it for a long time.Overall, I'd recommend this calculator if you're on a budget.

A return to mathematics after several years

Created: 16/02/11
Somewhat new to HP. Used one back in college in a Calculus II class which included Taylor Polynomials (the current TI did not allow Taylor calulations) so borrowed an HP for a short term to use on the final exam. Now retired and tutoring kids in the lower grades, I needed a simple graphing calculator. This HP38G fit perfectly; so did the price.
