Problems with set up; paper not feeding after 1 page

Created: 10/04/11
It took several tries to get the printer's wireless feature to work with my router...kept telling me the printer was not part of the network. Then when I finally got it working,it printed one test page and then wouldn't feed sheets through to print a document. Fiddled with adjusting paper when machine kept saying there was no paper...took about 20 tries to get it to print. Just bought it yesterday -- will see if I can take it back and get my money back.

This is a great all-in-one printer for the price. Easy set-up, compact and attractive. Print quality is good. We have 2 laptops set-up to print via the wireless interface.Print speed is a bit slow, but more than adequate for most home users. Ink cartridges can be purchased on-line at reasonable prices. $20 for color and $11 for black & white.

SETUP DIFFICULT. SIMPLE AIO OPERATIONS ARE VERY GOOD

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Hp-4500 I bought because I wanted AIO printing from a 2 ink cartridge model. The Hp-901 cartridges in color and b & w are not expensive. I had a 4 ink cartridge before and the light was on constantly about 1 of the 4 inks. The new 4500 is fast and photo printing is excellent. The machine is easy on ink. Document printing and scanning is great. I do not use the fax. I like the Hp-4500. I DISLIKED THE INITIAL DISK SETUP. I GOT "FATAL ERROR" warning every time I tried to load the drivers. Rather than "Recommended" download with HP Solution Center I had to settle for "Basic Setup." HP WAS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. Still, I like the basic 4500.

Prints and copies nicely, very user friendsly. Draw back, it uses the ink up quite quickly. Got 140 pages with 4 ines and 105 pages of black & white double spaced pages before the cartridge ran out. Have since ordered a cartridge that is supposed to double that amount, and have chosen the quick draft selection in the print mode to save on ink. So far I have printed 210 of each, the page with 4 lines, and the other double spaced pages and have not run out. When the cartridge begins to run out, the document just looks crappy, but the printer keeps printing. A preference would be that when it begins to run low, you get a LOW INK WARNING, rather than waste paper stock on crap that is not presentable enough to be used.

HP 4500 limits users and costs a lot to operate.

Created: 16/04/11
Consider that when you purchase an all-in-one printer, one would expect to use features of faxing and scanning even though the ink might be low or empty (a frequent event). This "little puppy" is a cash cow for HP because it closes the entire operation if you are out of ink. They did a marvelous job of letting you order ink direct from them or even from one of their suppliers -- in fact it is too obvious that their design intent was to hold owners hostage. As noted in other reviews, the 4500 uses ink like crazy. I would suggest finding another brand - one that lets you use all of the functions.
