HP ScanJet 5590 Flatbed Scanner

Although the Scanjet 5590 is not a "top of the line" unit, for the cost it is a very viable option for anyone, including business. The scanner is high resolution with 2400x2400ppi and the quality of the scans is very good. It is very difficult to find a "duplexing" scanner for such a low cost. The scanner document feeder will jam, but that can be minimized by simply making sure the media you are scanning is intact. Also, after several scans you do learn the "in's and out's" of the scanner and how to use it most effectively. Again, for the money I say "A BEST BUY" as it does have full drivers available for the new Windows 7 and works with Mac thru current models. Later drivers may need to be downloaded from HP, but they are avialable. I did have a little difficulty installing, but after "cleaning up" my PC and ridding it of some old driver software I was no longer using, it installed fine. I have heard that those who have an "all in one" installed may need to delete it, install the scanner and then reinstall the all in one as the drivers can either create install error's, or cause the scanner to perform slowly. I beleive this is due to registry conflicts as the operation occur's.

This is a very good scanner. it is Windows 7 compatible (both 32 and 64 bit).
i am running Windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit.
you do have to download the software and driver package from HP's site.

and if you want to copy legal size documents you will need to get the ADF paper feed tray if the one your
buying does not include it.

My personal recommendation is to burn the software to a cd/dvd and install it from that. It seemed to work better that way.

This scanner is the BOMB!!! It is the best, I have to scan contracts and send to insurance and contractors and it handles all of it. I could use more of them in our office. It is the best and easy to assemble and easier to use.

Short life.

Brought one in December 2010,

SOLD AS USED, tested working machine. 50 percent of it. Right Away problem with the DOC FEEDER, ADF.

Brought new power cord, CD drivers and downloaded updated software.

Went to HP for help, They just tried to sell me cleaning cloths for approx. $40.00 or new rollers or new something or other for hundreds of dollars more. Cost more to fix than I paid for it. Scanner still not working.

For sale at my next garage sale for parts ONLY or off to the e-waste pile.

I had purchased the large Ricoh scanner due to excellent performance of my previous Ricoh Aficio. However, my new computer did not have slot for SSCI board and I was forced to buy a smaller one and got the HP ScanJet 5590 which has performed exceptionally well. Am pleased with its compactness, reasonable price, and
performance--a feature of all the HP products I have purchased.
Highly recommend this.
