Synopsis
An ordinary man is pushed to his very limits to save the woman he loves in this novel from the master of suspense, Dean Koontz. Someone kidnaps Mitchell Rafferty's wife, Holly, and threatens to kill her within the next 72 hours unless Mitch produces a ransom of two million dollars--an amount far beyond the landscaper's ability to pay. Worse still, Mitch can't tell the police about Holly's disappearance, because the kidnapper is not only watching Mitch's every move, but is prepared to take drastic measures to ensure his silence.

When landscaper Mitchell Rafferty receives a phone call that his wife has been kidnapped and there is a two million dollar ransom, his extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing, seventy-two-hour journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption. Reprint.

With each and every new novel, Dean Koontz raises the stakes—and the pulse rate—higher than any other author. Now, in what may be his most suspenseful and heartfelt novel ever, he brings us the story of an ordinary man whose extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself—and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.

What would you do for love? Would you die? Would you kill?

We have your wife. You can get her back for two million cash. Landscaper Mitchell Rafferty thinks it must be some kind of joke. He was in the middle of planting impatiens in the yard of one of his clients when his cell phone rang. Now he’s standing in a normal suburban neighborhood on a bright summer day, having a phone conversation out of his darkest nightmare.

Whoever is on the other end of the line is dead serious. He has Mitch’s wife and he’s named the price for her safe return. The caller doesn’t care that Mitch runs a small two-man landscaping operation and has no way of raising such a vast sum. He’s confident that Mitch will find a way.

If he loves his wife enough. . . Mitch does love her enough. He loves her more than life itself. He’s got seventy-two hours to prove it. He has to find the two million by then. But he’ll pay a lot more. He’ll pay anything.

From its tense opening to its shattering climax, The Husband is a thriller that will hold you in its relentless grip for every twist, every shock, every revelation…until it lets you go, unmistakably changed. This is a Dean Koontz novel, after all. And there’s no other experience quite like it.

From the Hardcover edition.

The Husband by Dean Koontz

Created: 03/07/07
Genre: Drama/Action/Mystery
Warnings: Some language and violence, mild adult content

When Koontz writes these days, he writes so well that I can’t put the novel down – so I have to begin reading it early in the day if I want to sleep that night.

Unfortunately I was up all night with this one, a very good one - and I started reading far too late.

The Husband by Dean Koontz is a murder/drama/mystery with nothing of the supernatural involved other than the occasional feelings of closeness or dread among the characters.

To not give the plot away, this is an excellent read. I couldn’t put it down. The story is about a middle-income gardener whose wife is kidnapped; the kidnappers’ demand? Two million dollars! Where is a simple gardener to get that kind of money? Then he discovers the secrets – within secrets- within secrets. And his life and the people he admired in his life were never really what he believed them to be. His life – and he – will never be the same.

What follows is a trail of intrigue involving his own family and their many SURPRISING secrets along with a painful delving into his own past - and a reconciliation with that past in order to gain the strength to save his wife.

In light of a SHOCKING betrayal, a trail of self-discovery and recognition of many hard truths, he finds within himself a strength gained from his past as a neglected, abused child that he never dreamed he could have; an ability to fight for what is his own, what he loves and for what he wants to hang onto.

He turns from an ordinary man into almost a ‘super man’, surprising not only himself but everyone around him.

The power of love can do wonders.

How much does he really love his wife?

Created: 31/05/07
And just how far will he go to get her back? Mitch is just an ordinary guy living an ordinary life with the woman of his dreams. Life is very good until out-of-nowhere a group of high-tech, calculating psychos kidnap his wife and demand a ransom of two million dollars. Mitch has no clue where a lawn gardener can find that kind of money, but the kidnappers have a well thought out plan that is slowly and painfully revealed in stages. And just when you think you have everything and everyone figured out – bam! Dean Koontz takes you on another wild ride through some unimaginable twists and turns. This is another great masterpiece by the master of mystery! Its amazing how this writer can have you doing belly laughs one minute and pulling the covers over your head the next. Make sure you have some reading time on your hands when you pick up this book, because you are not going to want to put it down.

Koontz, The Husband

Dean Koontz has done it again. The Master of Suspense pens yet another "can't put it down" novel that has it all: Love, betrayal, intrigue, and a twist you don't see coming. I thought this book started off great, capturing the reader with a situation that perks your interest and makes you look over your shoulder. The twist was a complete surprise, the ending a great finale to this book. Highly recommended to all and a MUST read for Koontz fans.
