My dell laptop was ready to go and I needed a laptop with a good processing unit. A used Lenavo thinkpad was recommended for me with running our business on it. Computer arrived on time and in good condition. I've had no problems with it so far, except for the "e" key occassionally sticking. Computer is working out very well for me. I can run multiple programs at the same time and it doesn't freeze or have lag time. It's lightweight, so I can carry it around with no problem.

T510. i7. 4GB. HD500GB. TFT15'HD+.

It's comfy and robust. The screen is excellent. Battery life still disappointing.
T510 with Windows 7 32bit, i7M620, 2.67GHtz. HD 500GB, 4GB RAM, 15' TFT screen HD+, webcam, 6cell batt + extra 9cell.
I bought the thinkpad one month ago. I was previously working on a T61. I also have a R61 and a Tosh Tecra A9.
I use the T510 and the T61 for work. The applications are mostly Windows Office, Adobe CS, ArcGIS, GoogleEarth and statistical software. I also watch videos and surf the internet.
- The box feels good. Good make. As rugged as the T61. Much smaller and lighter than the R61. It is even slightly thinner than the T61. The wide screen format is a bit odd and it hardly fits in my bag. The keyboard touch has been modified. It's a bit slower and noisier than he T61 and the key are more slippery. The Del key have been enlarged but the Enter key is still that bloody tiny double key. Other access to functions are as good as on the T61. I hope it will be as robust as the T61.
- The screen is excellent. I wasted a long time waiting for the right screen to be available on Ebay with my best-choice setting and I was right to be patient. It's very bright, very neat. I won't be much help on the graphics, as I don't do gaming.
I didn't want the TFT format, I thought I wanted a square screen, I always work with several applications on at the same time and this format is good when you have 2 documents open side by side. Reading documents is not optimum as the screen is not very high, and in a trade off , I'm still not sure which one is best. In optimum position (Laptop elevate on a box, and external keyboard) then the quality of the screen appears superior and it's a real comfort.
The video is good and the sound is great for this type of machine. I'm not a pro but I am still rather demanding on video quality and I am satisfied.
GIS and GoogleEarth applications are great on this screen. It's a HUGE improvement from the T61. The image is crisp, detailed, clear, much better rendering at very high resolution (20cm resolution sat images). The maps are much clearer. I don't need to zoom in as much as on the T61 to see perfectly the details on shape files and rasters.
The webcam is good.
- Battery. The T61 screen is dull and my batt life is ridiculous. As I work in Africa most of the year, I wanted something big in terms of autonomy. The Lenovo web page sells my setting as 17 hours batt life but it is not true. The 6 cells is very disappointing. I get less than 1:40 hrs video. And at low brightness I can get 2:40 hrs of application time.
I haven't used the 9cell much but in my first evaluation, I won't get much more than 6 hours worth of Excel out of the whole batteries.
- 4GB RAM seems a bit slow but I am not sure whether it's my graphic card or my RAM that is lacking. It's still much better than T61.
- Connections look good and stable. Much better than my T61 or Tecra. It connects quickly as well.
- Windows 7. My first attempt at Win 7, I'd say it's so-so for now. I was fine with XP. This is not much different. It's a bit of a mild change in the Design. The Icon bar is really huge, the Windows start logo is enormous now and it requires to be hidden because it takes too much space on the tiny screen. The whole "My Documents" attempt at making access easyer is still messy and painstaking and it's all over the explorer. Switching windows is still messy in spite of the new features.

Lenovo T 510
Created: 22/10/10
Saluti

Bought a used ThinkPad T510 i7 with 4GB memory. Laptop feels solid. I have a 15" Screen and the picture quality is very good. The CPU is very fast and has more than enough CPU cycles for most applications. Laptop starts up quickly and is restarts quickly if in sleep mode. Plays DVDs with no lags.
