Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Blu-ray/DVD, 2009, 3-Disc Set, Includes Digital Copy)

Carlos Saldanha|Theatrical release: 2009 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Manny, Sid, Diego, and Ellie are back in this third film in the computer-animated Ice Age series. With those creatures in starring roles, fans also get another dose of the vocal talents of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Queen Latifah, who are joined by SHAUN OF THE DEAD’s Simon Pegg. In ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAUR, Manny and Ellie are expecting their first baby, while Sid the sloth tries an unconventional way of starting a family that gets him into trouble. With all this talk of babies, Diego might be losing his saber-toothed edge, but a journey to save Sid may just turn the whole group into heroes. In addition to all that adventure, it wouldn’t be an Ice Age film if Scrat weren’t on a desperate hunt for an acorn, but he might get distracted by a shapely female squirrel.

A Truly Enjoyable Film for all Ages. Bravo! Well done.

Created: 24/01/10
This time around, Manny and Ellie are expecting a baby mammoth, something that leads to unexpected responses from Diego and Sid. When Sid decides to become a parent himself in return, he steals three giant eggs he accidentally bumps into, only to later realize they're dinosaur eggs that belong to a pretty angry mother.

One of the funniest moments in the film is when Sid tries to milk this ancient cow but soon finds out that the cow is not female.

When mother-dinosaur kidnaps Sid, it's up to Manny and friends to return him home safely. Adventure and excitement ensue as they find out that underneath their icy world lives a land filled with enormous and sometimes menacing dinosaurs, one which our friends would need to cross in order to rescue Sid.

Even though we all should all be fully aware that the age of the dinosaur died off millions of years before animals such as the woolly mammoth and saber-toothed tiger appeared, we have to realize that the two periods have merged together in this film. This happens to be explained in the film since the story points out that the new find of the underground cavern harbors a taste of all the special dinosaurs that have managed to survive underground since their extinction. The mammals probably didn't even know about all of these creatures before.

An Ankylosaurus (large herbivore with an armoured back and tail club) is shown attacking the main characters when they first enter the dinosaur world. Even though the dinosaur is a bit over-exaggerated, it adds a bit of excitement to the film. Although some will wrongly think that the dinosaur is portrayed here as a carnivore, it is more likely that it attacked the group because it felt threatened by them, like a modern rhino.

Scrat is still on the hunt to hold onto his beloved acorn, while finding a possible romance in a female sabre-toothed squirrel named Scratte. Manny and Ellie, having since become an item, are expecting a baby, which leaves Manny anxious to ensure that everything is perfect for when his baby arrives. Diego is fed up with being treated like a house-cat and ponders the notion that he is becoming too laid-back. Sid begins to wish for a family of his own, and so steals some dinosaur eggs which leads to Sid ending up in a strange underground world where his herd must rescue him, while dodging dinosaurs and facing danger left and right, and meeting up with a one-eyed possum known as Buck who hunts dinosaurs intently.

Buck (Simon Pegg) is a fantastic new addition to the franchise, a looney tune hermit possum who joins the herd around half way through. When he enters the scene, the whole movie shifts up a gear! Some of the stuff he comes out with will have you rolling in the isle! If you have the chance, you must see it in 3D! It's amazing how a new version of such outdated technology can take you even deeper into a film. The chases are more exciting, the locations more real, it works so well, it doesn't give you a migraine!

Dawn of the Dinosaurs sports some great visuals, sweeping landscapes, and phenomenal character design. Everything looks and sounds just as it should. The film spots some fantastic voice acting most prominently from Pegg. What trips them up is the lazy dialogue, as much as the trailer tried to deviate away from it, Buck is the focal point of the movie, he's in 80% of it and does a great job in every scene. It's just a shame that by doing this they pushed the rest of the cast to the rear.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Created: 10/11/09
known as Ice Age 3, is a 2009 3-D computer animated film. It is the third installment of the Ice Age series, produced by Blue Sky Studios and distributed by 20th Century Fox. A sneak preview was shown in selected theaters on Father's Day in the United States. The film features the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, and Chris Wedge. The story has Sid being taken by a female Tyrannosaurus rex after stealing her eggs, leading the rest of the protagonists to rescue him in a tropical lost world inhabited by dinosaurs beneath the ice.

The film was released in RealD where available. The release sparked some controversy when Fox announced that it would no longer pay to supply 3D glasses to theaters,[2] which led to a number of exhibitors threatening to only show the film in standard 2D projection. [3] Despite mixed reviews by critics, Dawn of the Dinosaurs became the second highest grossing animated film of all time with $874.5 million worldwide.

The Ultimate Ice Age Experience!

Created: 05/01/10
This our 3 year old son's new, most favorite movie! Funny for young and old and extremely good graphics! This is an action packed, fun packed, moral guidance packed movie and our entire family LOVES it!
If you liked the original Ice Age and perhaps Ice Age2, the Meltdown, you are going to LOVE this movie, funny, entertaining, exciting. I will not spoil the plot of the movie, but you will meet Manny the Mammoth again with all his old friends: Sid the Sloth, Diego the Sabertooth Tiger, Ellie the girl-Mammoth with her 2 Opossum brothers Crash and Eddie. You will even be introduced to a few new characters, like the hilarious Buck ("short for Buckwild, long for Buh") the Weasel.
The great feature of this particular DVD/Blu-Ray set is that it has ALL the possible playing formats, including the digital copy which can be downloaded and played on your computer and your video enabled I-pod.
Buying this product on Ebay was one of the best investments I made :-)

Great for children of all ages

Created: 27/10/09
Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo return as the voices of the beloved animals of the Ice Age movies.

In this installment, Scrat finds a mate and as they chase an acorn they break into a land filled with dinosaurs. Shortly after that Sid falls into this hole and finds three dinosaur eggs which he brings back with him. When the mother of the eggs finds them missing she adventures outside into the Ice Age and brings back her newly born children and Sid is taken by mistake. The others set off to find Sid in the land of the Dinosaurs and bring him back.

The adventure continues with Ellie, Manny and Diego (as well as Ellie's brothers) searching the underworld for Sid.

This third installment of the Ice Age series is just as fun and just as funny as the other two movies.

Recommended for all ages.
