Ice Age (DVD, 2002, 2-Disc Set, Includes Full Frame and Widescreen Versions)

Chris Wedge|Theatrical release: 2002 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

A star-studded cast provides the voices for the prehistoric creatures in this computer-animated feature set 20,000 years ago as the Ice Age approaches. Seemingly anti-social Manny, a woolly mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano), acts as if he just wants to be left alone. When he meets Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo), a sloth, the two become unlikely traveling companions. The plot thickens when the duo finds a human infant and decides to try to return the child to its "herd." Manny slowly but surely reveals his heart of gold, while Sid continues to provide comic relief. Diego (voiced by Denis Leary), a saber-tooth tiger with ulterior motives, soon joins them in their search for the humans. Ultimately, this group of misfits becomes its own herd, learning about friendship and loyalty as they brave snow, ice, freezing temperatures, predators, hail, and even boiling lava pits. All the while, a saber-tooth squirrel, Scat, provides comic relief as he valiantly struggles with an acorn. A well-written, humorous script and endearing characters mesh well with the state-of-the-art technology and effects. Other stars lending their voices to the feature include Goran Visnjic, Jack Black, and Jane Krakowski.

This is a 4 thumbs up movie!

Created: 11/02/06
This animated movie is a real treat for kids and adults. Sid the 3 toed sloth (Voice of John Leguizamo) is left by his relatives when its time to migrate (he wonders why they did not wake him when it was time to go)and is hilarious (as Mr. Leguizamo is multi-talented) Sid brings two other prehistoric animals into what turns out to be a quest to find the "herd" of a human baby as an Ice Age approaches. One of the animals is Manny, a mammoth played by Ray Romano and Diego, a sabretoothed cat played by Denis Leary. I fell in love with these endearing characters who go through so much to return the baby to the humans.

In the mean while a prehistoric squirrel has trys to store a nut thoughout the movie and the DVD has a little featurette with the "squirrel" himself as the only character. It is adorable and very funny, well scripted. This is a 4 thumbs up movie!

The First Ice Age experience

Created: 05/01/10
This DVD set comes highly recommended. Of course the story is very funny and the graphics are amazing. Our 2 year old son LOVES this movie. It is the original movie where the main characters Manny (the Mammoth), Sid (the Sloth) and Diego (the Sabertooth Tiger) are introduced and meet each other as they try to return a human baby to his herd.
If you want watch the newer movies in this fantastic series, "Ice Age2, the Meltdown" and "Ice Age: the Dawn of the Dinosaurs" this is a must see, to learn about the main characters and to get some of the inside jokes in those following movies.
This movie has become an instant classic for animated movies and it is entertaining for young AND old.
The good thing about this particular DVD set is that it comes with both wide screen and full frame version for those of you who don't have a Widescreen TV in every room yet, like me.

Ice Age

Created: 22/10/06
This is one of my favorite movies. This is the kind of movie that you can watch over and over again and not get bored with it.

It has a great range of genres in it as well: humor, drama, adventure, and suspense all rolled into one.

The movie takes place during the Ice Age (hence the name of the movie) where a group of animals (a herd as they start calling themselves) is trying to bring a young human child to his father. The herd consists of 3 animals (plus the child), they are: Manny (mammoth), Sid (sloth), and Diego (sabre-tooth tiger).

This movie is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. It's a movie for kids of all ages.

Ice Age is a COOOOOOL MOVIE!

Created: 06/02/08
My grandson had seen this and wanted to see it again so I bought it for him for Christmas along with the sequel, Ice Age 2, the Meltdown. We love the voices, they are so funny. I think our favorite voice is Ray Romano as the woolly mammoth. Oh, but the saber-toothed tiger is great too ... and the sloth ... they are all so GOOD! We love that crazy squirrel who follow the acorn through both movies. The action is great, the story is great, the music is great. AND the extra on the DVD are fun to have!
