Ice Age (VHS, 2002, Includes Bonus Short "Scrat's Mising Adventure")

Chris Wedge|Theatrical release: 2002 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

A star-studded cast provides the voices for the prehistoric creatures in this computer-animated feature set 20,000 years ago as the Ice Age approaches. Seemingly anti-social Manny, a woolly mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano), acts as if he just wants to be left alone. When he meets Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo), a sloth, the two become unlikely traveling companions. The plot thickens when the duo finds a human infant and decides to try to return the child to its "herd." Manny slowly but surely reveals his heart of gold, while Sid continues to provide comic relief. Diego (voiced by Denis Leary), a saber-tooth tiger with ulterior motives, soon joins them in their search for the humans. Ultimately, this group of misfits becomes its own herd, learning about friendship and loyalty as they brave snow, ice, freezing temperatures, predators, hail, and even boiling lava pits. All the while, a saber-tooth squirrel, Scat, provides comic relief as he valiantly struggles with an acorn. A well-written, humorous script and endearing characters mesh well with the state-of-the-art technology and effects. Other stars lending their voices to the feature include Goran Visnjic, Jack Black, and Jane Krakowski.

This is one of my favorite movies. This is the kind of movie that you can watch over and over again and not get bored with it.

It has a great range of genres in it as well: humor, drama, adventure, and suspense all rolled into one.

The movie takes place during the Ice Age (hence the name of the movie) where a group of animals (a herd as they start calling themselves) is trying to bring a young human child to his father. The herd consists of 3 animals (plus the child), they are: Manny (mammoth), Sid (sloth), and Diego (sabre-tooth tiger).

This movie is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. It's a movie for kids of all ages.

This movie is excellent. Filled with all-star celebrity voices, it tells a tale of three pre-historic animals finding themselves unlikely partners in the returning of a human baby to it's "pack". The movie starts out with a squirrel chasing his acorn, very funny, and this aside continues all throughout the movie and ends with the same, in present day...thawing out of an ice block and chasing that same acorn, just hysterical! The group of three..an elephant, lion and sloth, are migrating and come across the baby. The sloth convinces them that it must be returned, and there starts the adventure. Through it all, these animals learn to trust and rely on each other despite their instinct to do otherwise. In the end, even the humans get this when the baby is finally returned. I love this movie for the underlying messages of trust, reliance and tolerance, and for the appeal that it has for children. The reason i bought this movie is because my 2 year old grandson was taken by a friend to see this in a theater, and it held his attention for the whole movie! He did not fidget or want to get up through the whole thing. Anyone ever having a two year old will know this is just about unheard of! He is now almost seven and Ice Age remains his favorite movie. I think that is probably the best recommendation i could give. If you have not seen this movie, you should!

Ice Age is a hoot. The mastadon really looks like Ray Romano and the sabre tooth tiger is perfect. The sloth was purposefully annoying but he really has a heart underneath it all. The scene in the ice tunnel depicting the mastadon family on the wall was sad. The squirrel was a great touch. It was great to see the eventual understanding between the mastadon and the father of the baby at the end. Good show, great for the family.
