Movie synopsis

Set in the magical backdrop of Buenes Aires, Argentina, IMAGINING ARGENTINA features an all-star cast that includes sultry Latin lover Antonio Banderas and esteemed British actress Emma Thompson. Adapted from the acclaimed novel by Lawrence Thornton, the narrative follows theatre director Carlos (Banderas) and his journalist wife Cecilia (Thompson) as they navigate the war-ridden country of the 1970s. When Cecilia is kidnapped by the military junta in power for writing oppositional pieces about their government, Carlos becomes plagued by "visions" of his imprisoned wife and other dissidents who have "disappeared." A daring mixture of luscious magical realism and political commentary, IMAGINING ARGENTINA premiered at the world-renowned Venice Film Festival to great acclaim.

One of the worst movies ever made - avoid it!

Created: 08/09/07
If youd like to hear and witness insane brutalities vented on our own dear Emma Thompson, you must be on the squad that made this movie. Callously brutal in its insensitive treatment of violence against real women - our best in fact, this is a movie that reeks of inanity at reading human sensibilities in respect of the material presented. The acting itself is superficial and shallow, the script mainly improvised poorly. I couldn t watch it all the way to the end, and had second thoughts about the plans I had to donate this to a library branch nearby. When material such as this is remotely envisioned, care must be taken not to leave any impression upon the viewer that they have to live with these sounds and or images. Instead the clearest impression must be left that complete and certain annihilating force would be brought to bear by all civilized beings against any bestial creatures out there who have the remotest possible fantasy of getting away with actually acting out any of this on the best of our own.

Anything Antonio Banderas touches turns to gold. And here in Imagining Argentina is no different. Plus the settings in Argentina are breathtaking.
Excellent movie.

Had higher expectations for this film topic.Mediocre acting, too long. What was the point to this? Not worth the time watching it.

great movie that accurately portrays what is to many a very dark side to Argentine history that should be retold
