Album Notes
All London Symphony Orchestra tracks conducted by Sir Georg Solti.Producers: Michael Haas, Andreas Neubronner, Steven Epstein.Engineers: Pauline Heister, Richard King.Recorded in April and May 1994. Includes liner notes by Bernard Rose.Personnel: Renée Fleming (soprano); Bryn Terfel (bass voice); Gidon Kremer (violin); Yo-Yo Ma (cello); Emanuel Ax, Murray Perahia (piano).Immortal Beloved is a film about the turbulent life and times of Beethoven. Throughout the film, highlights from his vast canon are featured, and those pieces of music were collected for the soundtrack recording. In essence, the soundtrack is "The Best of Beethoven" -- it features all of the melodies that have worked their way into popular consciousness. Naturally, this isn't the place to find challenging, inventive interpretations of Beethoven's standards, nor is it even the place to find definitive readings of these works. Instead, it is a sampler, designed to whet the appetite of a neophyte Beethoven fan; in that sense, Immortal Beloved works very well. However, if you have a deep knowledge of the composer, pass this one by. ~ Rodney Batdorf

Excellent CD from start to finish. Great tracks. This is quite possibly the best compilation of classical music ever assembled. Not only was the motion picture terrific but the sound track is out of this world.

Superior CD: If you liked the movie you will love this!

Although more fiction than fact, IMMORTAL BELOVED is a romantic, bewitching tale of the life of Beethoven. My life sitting behind the keys of a piano pale to the life of this essentially brilliant, gifted genius.
I HIGHLY recommend this sellection.

Some of Beethoven's greatest works. Right from the movie that I thought was great. His Piano Concerto No. 5 is haunting and I play it over and over.

good introduction to Beethoven

Murray Perahia is just beautiful in playing everthing in this soundtrack.
particularly the second movement of "Emperor" pinao concerto, i've never heard it played like he did. the sound of this piano does not seem to come from the instrument, it's falling from the heaven and seeping into your heart.
