An Inconvenient Truth (DVD, 2006)

Davis Guggenheim, Al Gore|Theatrical release: 2006 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

A movie based on a PowerPoint presentation by a former presidential candidate may not sound exciting, but once AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH hits its stride viewers may be surprised how compelling the subject matter proves to be. While many high-ranking political figures continue to argue about global warming, Al Gore has plunged headlong into a serious wake-up call for the planet with a series of lectures about the problem. It's on one of these lectures that this movie from director Davis Guggenheim is based. Guggenheim breaks up Gore's delivery by illustrating his points with film footage, much of which features the former Democratic nominee exploring the globe as he examines the effects of global warming. Gore's speech is neatly divided between calm recitations of the facts about the issue and several stories of a personal nature. His skills as an orator are considerable, and it's hard not to be alarmed by most of what he has to say. Indeed, as Gore relates tales of melting polar icecaps, rising global temperatures, and the reluctance of political leaders to do something about the problem, the film takes on an air of hopelessness and doom, especially as no easy solutions are offered. Gore's advice is for individuals to take steps to reduce their own inadvertent poisoning of the atmosphere, and to persuade others to do likewise. It's a powerful message, and one that is likely to remain in non-cynical minds long after the film comes to a conclusion.

An Excellent Earth Day, or ANY day movie !!!

Created: 21/04/07
I recently bought the DVD with former Vice-President Al Gore, Jr called "An Inconvenient Truth". The movie was released in US theaters on May 24, 2006 and was released on DVD on November 21, 2006. The movie grossed about $24 million in the US and about $48.5 million worldwide (including the US gross). Al Gore, Jr. was born March 31, 1948 in Washington, DC. He does an awesome job of getting the attention of common folk, like me and perhaps like you. I plan on promoting this DVD on my main website called "El Mundo De Monte Mendoza". He makes the issue of global warming very clear and easy to understand. I do my small part to help reduce global warming by taking the bus as often as possible. I plan on spending more time reading and studying about this issue and other environmental issues as well. There is also an excellent song by Melissa Etheridge in the movie called "I Need To Wake Up". One of the extras on the DVD is the video of that song which Melissa wrote and performs. That song is on certain copies of her greatest hits CD called "The Road Less Traveled". It is song number 18 on those certain limited edition CDs. Thank you Al Gore for inspiring me to make changes in my life that will in a small, but important way, impact our future. I pray that you live a long life and that you continue this excellent mission that you are undertaking. For more information, see Al Gore's website called "ClimateCrisis.net." There is a link below for that site. This movie won two Oscars. One for Best Feature Documentary and one for Best Original Song. This movie won several other awards also, which are listed in the link below. This is a perfect DVD to watch for Earth Day 2007 on Sunday, April 22, or for ANY day of the year...since every day truly needs to be Earth Day. I would recommend the DVD "The Day After Tomorrow", the 2004 movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid as a great double feature.

An Inconvenient Truth

Al Gore may be boring, but this movie isn't!!!

If you only see two movies this year, please make this one of them.

An Inconvenient Truth speaks of the harmful effect Global Warming is having on our planet, the planet Earth. Al Gore does an amazing job filling this film (which is basically a recording of a slide show presentation he does) with laughter, information, and cold hard facts.

If you still don't believe that Global Warming is something to worry about, see this film, it might change your mind.

An Inconvenient Truth is like the film Super Size Me, it offers info most of us already know, but the fact that it throws it right in our face so we can no longer ignore it is the best thing that can happen. We all know how bad fast food is, and we all know that pollution is killing the enviroment. People started doing something about the fast food, the big corporations offered low-fat alternatives and smaller portion sizes. Here's hoping that this film will make waves in the political community.

I'm only 22, and I fear that when I turn 75 I'm going to see a planet Earth that I no longer recognize.

Please see this film, just once.

Final Verdict:

There is no rating high enough out of any number that can significantly portray the importance of the film. But since I have to give it a rating, I rate it 100/5.

Rent or Buy?: Buy this film, and show it to all of your friends, family, and anybody else who will listen, the future is now, and without action, there will be no future at all.

IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Thank you.

The Truth is out there

Created: 01/04/07
Al Gore asks, "Should we prepare for other threats besides terrorists?"

Decidedly yes.

Formerly the next president of the United States who never got to do the job, Al Gore continues to go city by city delivering his slide presentation on global warming to try and better the world, not just the country. This twice Oscar nominated film not only explores in detail the progression and effects of global warming, but also follows Al Gore's autobiographical journey of important moments in his life that made him who he is today. This movie really is a frightening account of what could happen fifty short years down the road if action isn't taken. It isn't all despairing, however. Gore relays the information in an often amusing manner with jokes and banter effectively switching from one subject to the next while tying everything together.

I have to say, he really is an amazing public speaker who has had a fire under him to do something about global warming since he was a young man in college. If we had gotten to see more of this personality before the election, would his vote have been more substantial? Probably not, after all Jeb Bush was running Florida and what's past is past, but you can't help but wonder while watching this film......what if? What if they had let the popular vote carry the election? What if we had started working on global warming with an environmentally friendly president seven years ago? How much better could we be off today?

The numbers and the science is devastating. The effects are everywhere. One of them is that with global warming, you get stronger storms like Hurricane Katrina which started off as a Level One in Florida, then went south a bit and mixed with warmer waters and came back to New Orleans as......well, we all saw the news. The glaciers are melting and becoming so thin that more pieces are going to break off and create heightened sea levels all over the world. 60 million people are at stake in India alone. Plus there has been evidence now of polar bears actually drowning as they swim sixty miles or more to find the disappearing ice. The last time a big piece of glacier broke off into the ocean, it stopped the North Atlantic Current and threw Europe into another ice age within ten years. But that could never happen again, right? There's no big piece of ice near there, is there? Oh wait...yeah...GREENLAND. And it's got shallow pools of water forming at the top which tunnels down through the ice melting it.

And people despair and say oh well, nothing we can do now, huh? That's wrong. Gore showed a chart showing how much we could fix with each step and actually we have the methods to get our carbon dioxide emissions down below those of 1970. If we tried. Gore says, "It's not a political issue. It's a moral one," and it really is. The United States is the biggest contributor to the problem by far so this country does need to take a leading role in correcting it. We are one of two countries in the world who has not signed the Kyoto agreement. That motivated several U.S. cities to sign it as cities instead. States are taking initiative where the federal government is slacking.

People always use the economy versus the environment argument and in all honesty, taking initiative to fix these old methods and bad habits people are using would create more jobs in the long run. Plus what would you rather have? A few gold bars or the whole world?

TRUTHFUL LESSONS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING EFFECTS AL GORE

Created: 16/03/07
STOP POISONING THE EARTH! THE CONSEQUENCES ARE ALREADY OBVIOUS SCIENTIFIC FACTS!

In short, that is Vice President Al Gore's poignant power point message. Gore presents it better than any professor's lecture I've ever seen. See this educational movie, if you see no other.

Be upset about rising global temperatures. Be alarmed that the polar icecaps are melting & be appropriately angry that US Republican leaders aren't doing nearly enough to stop the industrial poisonings. In fact, they are empowering $$$ the major institutions causing our weather problems. Instead they have lined their pockets with our taxes so industrial polluters keep destroying the environment all living things depend upon for survival. So such"leaders" are not simply putting our lives at risk, every living thing is suffering consequences.

Our children's lives are even more at risk. Aren't we supposed to take actions to protect our children? If not, who is?

This is a provocative movie that definitely earned two Oscars because the multi-media presentation is anything but boring. Don't just see it & worry about tomorrow. Vote to stop those who do nothing to stop global warming today.

An Inconvenient Truth: Beyond Politics

Created: 04/01/07
An Inconvenient Truth is one of those movies that should be shown in classrooms. Al Gore does a spectacular job of opening a dialogue on climate change and global warming. This movie presents the science behind the term 'Global Warming' and takes it from an over-used catch phase and makes it realistic for the masses.

Al Gore has been an activist for environmental issues for years and I am glad to see he has used his years of knowledge and experience to create a documentary that allows the world to benefit from his hard work.

This movie goes beyond the boundaries of Republican versus Democrat. Climate change effects every living creature on the earth, and without action we will see some drastic and destructive changes occur over the next few decades. We are already starting to see the impact of climate change in warmer winters, thinner ice, melting icebergs, and changes in wildlife activity.

Imagine not being able to go ice fishing or access remote towns or mines due to unsafe ice road conditions. Not being able to see polar bears or penguins. Having you city flooded by rising water levels. Experiencing stronger and more destructive storms. Climate change is not just about warmer winters, it is about the very survival of the environment as we know it.

I highly recommend this movie for ALL people. Old, young, rich, poor, Republican, or Democrat. I will be purchasing a copy for my movie collection!
