Movie synopsis

Combining a family-oriented superhero adventure with the brilliant animation of Disney's Pixar (the creators of MONSTERS INC. and FINDING NEMO), THE INCREDIBLES charts new territory in the technical wizardry of computer-generated cartoons. Using complex angles and a filmic sensibility, the animation feels like live action, and smart techniques such as cuts to "grainy film stock" give this movie instant sophistication. Writer-director Brad Bird, with his creative storytelling and well-paced character development, does the rest. This tale is set in a slightly futuristic society where superheroes are no longer appreciated (Read: But I didn't want to be saved!) and are forced to assume a very low profile. So, for Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), his wife Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), and his three fledgling superhero kids, maintaining a lifestyle of mediocrity in order to appear normal causes constant friction. When the opportunity suddenly arises for the Incredibles to use their powers to fight evil, it's trial-by-fire to learn to work as a superteam. Together they must stop the maniacal Syndrome (Jason Lee) from unleashing a murderous robot in a big city. Fast action and violence involving large explosions make this a film that is better suited for older children rather than the very little ones. Yet family themes and comic episodes prevail, with eclectic characters like Edna the fashion designer (voiced by Bird himself) and the iceman Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) adding extra moments of fun.

New York Times - A. O. Scott (11/05/2004)

"[A] piece of animation that's involving across a spectrum of comedy, action, even drama....Blessedly funny, there is also a surprising air of poignancy about much of it..."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (11/05/2004)

"[O]ne of the year's most clever and visually arresting computer-animated films, enlivened by a well-developed and credible cast of characters who just happen to be superheroes."
USA Today - Claudia Puig (11/05/2004)

"[A] great story, a rich micro-universe of pixel-driven cartoon characters with more depth, complexity, and emotional maturity than those in most live-action dramas....Indeed incredible."
Entertainment Weekly - Lisa Schwarzbaum (11/12/2004)

"[A] film that breaks fresh ground....Bird has crafted a film -- one of the year's best -- that doesn't ring cartoonish, it rings true."
Rolling Stone - Peter Travers (11/25/2004)

The Incredibles Posted by CK-Auctions

Pixar somehow continues to make animated movies that are smarter, funnier and even occasionally more emotional than many of the live-action pictures released these days. "The Incredibles" is the latest triumph from the production company and a welcome return for Brad Bird, the director of the still-underrated "Iron Giant".

The film, while not offering as many emotional moments (the film is essentially an action movie) as Pixar's prior effort, "Finding Nemo", still contains a lot of heart. The portrayal of the family unit is superb and yet, rather realistic. The kids aren't entirely new characters (the shy girl), but the way that the writers and animators have tweaked all the characters make them feel fresh. The film also provides some nice, respectful and clever goofs on the superhero genre, while providing a solid tale of individuality and family. "The Incredibles" also represents another beautiful picture from Pixar, as the animation is gorgeous. Once again, Pixar also knows how to choreograph a dazzling sequence incredibly well, such as one moment where Elastigirl gets caught in a series of doors and still has to fight off her attackers.

The voice work is fantastic, as Craig T. Nelson's voice work capably handles the humor, confidence and emotion of the role. Holly Hunter's portrayal of a superwoman trying to hold her household together is also first-rate. Sarah Vowell and Spencer Fox are also great voicing the kids. Jason Lee ("Mallrats") is also quite good voicing the villian. One of the film's real gems, however, is director Brad Bird's vocal work as Edna E. Mode, the fashion designer who works on the supersuits worn by the heroes.

If "The Incredibles" is flawed in any way, it's that it's a few minutes too long. At nearly two hours, editing down the picture by 5-10 minutes might have helped pick up the pacing. The film's ending also keeps going on a bit long. Not that this is a fault, but the film is also more violent than other recent animated fare (simply because this is an action movie), and some young children might find it scary.

Overall, while "The Incredibles" doesn't feel like it has quite the depth of "Nemo"'s memorable adventure, this is still another exceptional effort from Pixar, and one of 2004's best films.

Ultimately, the best grown-up's Cartoon Ever!

Created: 19/06/09
The Pixar magic has certainly blessed the film industry for families and adults alike. Even though I thought this movie was a bit too long and more mature than most children can appreciate, we find out that this 1 hour and 55 minute film allows the adults to watch something different, teenagers to stay with the family longer than usual, and small ones to be astounded by spectacular advances in cartoon magic.

The story is one of frustration when the incredible family duo get transferred out of the hero business.

Stay tuned until the very end. You will not be let down.

I'll give this a 4/5 since I really liked it but was a bit too long to hold my attention all the way through anytime soon.

The Incredibles - Always Epic

Created: 07/05/09
I personally love the movie.

Basically, it's about a superhero family that they eventually fully become. However, family life and daily struggles of life are depicted wonderfully with the two retired superheroes - Mr. and Mrs. Incredible - at the beginning and throughout the movie, and that's what truly makes the movie astonishing. As for the graphics, they're stunning, given the year that it was released in. The superpowers and every intricate detail of Mr. Incredible's every face expression are just... incredible. If you haven't seen it, you don't know what you're missing.

It's a Disney/Pixar masterpiece, hands down. Action and human drama bursts every minute on the screen. For adults and children alike, this movie will please anyone from little children to hardcore action movie lovers to adults after a hard day's work. 4.5/5.

Cute Family Movie!

Created: 07/03/11
This is one of the earlier Pixar movies, which still stands the test of time as a good wholesome family movie. My kids love it! They had always wanted to see it as my son loves superheroes and someone gave him the costume of Dash. They really get a kick out of the little baby dressed up like a superhero. The characters are likable. It's great that the whole family functions as a team to help each other out. And as with Pixar movies there is always a lot of humor. The kids laugh a lot!
