Album Notes
Dave Edmunds' previous album, D.E. 7TH, was his first after an acrimonious split from Rockpile bandmate Nick Lowe. On that release he remained close to the band's familiar sound and production approach. On INFORMATION, Edmunds shifted his approach, embracing synthesizers and a heavier drum sound, which were in vogue at the time. Jeff Lynne is on hand as a player, and also produced the lead track, the radio-ready "Slipping Away" (the two worked together again on the next album, RIFF RAFF). As always, Edmunds has great taste in choosing material--he even returns to the NRBQ songbook for "I Want You Bad" (NRBQ's "Me and the Boys" was on D.E. 7TH).

Quirky, catchy Edmunds album

Created: 19/05/08
Dave Edmunds' foray into "New Wave", mixing his signature guitar sounds with the heavy overlay of synthesizers and other early 80s trappings, takes a while to adjust to but eventually the catchy lyrics and songs win out. There's just too much gleeful pop innocence to not like songs like "Don't You Double" and "Have a Heart" though he probably should have put the vocoder away for the "Watch on My Wrist". As an album that will make you smile, and appreciate Edmunds' deep talent and experimentalism, this is a solid effort.

Dave's first foray into working with former founder of ELO, Jeff Lynne. Although a strong title song, one of two produced by Jeff, the album as a whole doesn't hit the mark of Dave's best work. His previous records D.E. 7th, Twangin' and his Swan Song debut Get It are all cut for cut classics.
