Expanding on the successful back-to-basics sound of 1989's THE MIRACLE, INNUENDO was another solid outing. And like it's predecessor, it contains several tracks with lyrics that are clearly autobiographical for the band and especially Mercury, particularly "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and "The Show Must Go On," which deal with the topic of mortality. Not all of INNUENDO deals with serious topics, however--"I'm Going Slightly Mad" and "Delilah" both contain humorous lyrics and were designed to be taken lightheartedly. The epic title track, which opens the album, is an instant Queen classic on first listen, built similarly in structure to past Queen classics "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Somebody to Love." A pair of wonderful hard rockers, "The Hitman" and "Headlong" can be found on INNUENDO, as can a couple of lush ballads--"Don't Try So Hard" and "Bijou." Looking back, Queen went out on a definite high note with INNUENDO.

QUEEN - INNUENDO (the most beautiful Queen album)

    Created: 16/02/08
Innuendo, last Queen album with Freddie alive!
Great album that takes you thru a trip of true emotions. If you like music, you're really have to listen to it!
I haven't heard an album of this quality in a long time. The most notable feature about it is the personal element to it - the four members of the band drew upon what was going on around them for inspiration - mainly, of course, Freddie's impending demise. There is some element of this in the lyrics to most of the songs here. Only a few, like All God's People and The Hitman have no personal element at all. Also, the order of the songs is absolutely perfect here; every song fits perfectly into place. Out of the millions of possible orders for these twelve songs, I don't believe there is one that is better than the one here. I cannot say enough in praise of this album. It is Queen's finest by far, and one of the finest albums ever recorded.
The Best Song Musically: Well, for once, despite the absolutely flawless musicianship on every song, we have one standout in the form of Innuendo. Having said that, These Are The Days Of Our Lives has an absolutely amazing guitar solo, plus the continuity of the soft drumming throughout the song; The Show Must Go On has a very powerful keyboard riff, Ride The Wild Wing and Headlong will just blow you away . . . why don't I name the whole album for outstanding performances? Even though there's one that is a cut above the rest, trying to separate one song (or two or three) that stands out musically from the masses is impossible, they all do!
The Best Song Lyrically: Once again, we are treated to some amazing lyrics, but These Are The Days Of Our Lives wins the prize here, no contest. Actually, there's once again a hell of a lot of contest - Innuendo and The Show Must Go On for their sheer defiance, I Can't Live With You and Don't Try So Hard, I just can't separate one song, or two or three, from here.
The Best Song Vocally: Same comments as above - why not just name the whole album? All the vocals are brilliant, but the best vocal here bar none, is The Show Must Go On. Innuendo and These Are The Days Of Our Lives are also worthy of a mention, the former for its power, the latter for its depth and simplicity. Also worthy of a mention are Don't Try So Hard and Ride The Wild Wind, but is there really a poor performance?
The Best Song All-Round: It is impossible to pick one song from this album as the best - it has three of their absolute best songs ever! In fact, I am having a difficult time cutting it down beyond those three! These Are The Days Of Our Lives, The Show Must Go On, and Innuendo are all sheer classics, all in different ways. I really cannot cut the list down past three. All of them stand out in every category above . . . all I can say is, what an album!
The Worst Song: All God's People.

Swan song of a dying man.

    Created: 15/04/08
When you look at the breadth of work from Queen, Innuendo might not be your top choice, but it should get an honorable mention. The album has a hint of old (Going Slightly Mad, a touch of the heavy (Headlong), and a touch of Class (The Show must go on). All this coming from a man and a band that knew he was dying. Vocally this is a stunning performance from Freddy Mercury, Not to mention the guitar work, in particular the song Bijou. With one of the finest rythm sections in rock doing what they do best. It is my opinion that there is enough of the old harmonies as well as new techniques to please all.

    Innuendo

    Created: 27/07/06
My first memory of this album was listening to it in long car journeys with my Dad driving fast like a mad man singing 'Headlong' loudly out of the car window.
It's such a great album and is so emotive because it sums up where Freddy Mercury was at the time of its release.
I personally like 'I'm going slightly mad' but the best song is probably 'Innuendo'. I'm not too sure about 'All God's people' and 'Delilah', the rest of the album's great though.

    Queen--Innuendo

    Created: 08/05/10
Brilliant album by Queen--probably my favourite. Love the guitar interplay in the title track w/ the flamenco. But the true highlight, as with anything by Queen, is Freddie Mercury, especially considering he wrote and recorded while at the end stages of HIV. All lyrics extremely touching.

    Inuendo - Queen CD 1991

    Created: 08/09/06
A wonderful addition to my Queen Library. As always it is difficult to choose a favorite song, but perhaps "I'm Going Slightly Mad" will do. Haven't we all felt that way sometimes? Another favorite would be "I Can't Live Without You", a very deep feeling and so true. Another would be "Ride the Wild Wind".
