A Fuedal Gaming Tale

The most important aspect of a game is wether or not you enjoy playing it.
Given that we each have our own set of standards, reviewing anything is difficult.
Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tail for the playstation is an average game.
There are moments when the gameplay is very fun, but it relies to much on its appeal to fans of the manga and show and too little on exciting or interesting gameplay.
As a 2D fighting game, it seriously lags behind the competition. It's slow, characters have a very limited number of attacks, and therefore there's a lack of depth to the strategy aspect of the game. Complete mastery of every character in the game takes little more than 10 minutes of practice. Serious or "hardcore" fighting game fans will quickly realize this and be done with the game.
However, as one of the very few Inuyasha games, and anime related games in general available in the US, I: AFFT stands out. It faithfully recreates the personalities and behaviors of the characters, while it also looks very good from a technical standpoint. Many 2D games on the Playstation suffer from a low frame count which makes the animation stiff. This is not the case here. Slow moving, however.
Fans of the series will also greatly enjoy all of the unlockable extra material, such as an image viewer, voice editor and bgm/vocal player, provided they take the time to unlock them all.
Presentation: 6/10 A ponderous (By Street Fighter II standards) 2D Fighter featuring characters from the hit Series. Fighting Game fans beware, General Gamers be cautious, but fans of the franchise rejoice. This could have been MUCH worse.
Gameplay: 5/10 Bare minimum features required to be a 2D Fighter, no depth of strategy. Replay value is negligible to none.
Graphics: 8/10 Honestly couldn't see these sprites any better looking on a 2D game for the PSOne. However, the characters move slowly.
Sound: 7/10 Decent BGM, but nothing special. Kinda repetative. Includes a few tunes from the show.
Controls: 8/10 Handles like hundreds of similar games, no major flaws or issues. Again, SLOW moving characters.
OVERALL: 6.8/10
Inuyasha fans who aren't particulary serious at fighting games will get the most enjoyment from this game. Casual gamers might get bored. Anime fans in general might do well to pick it up if the price isn't bad. Again, if your a fan of games like Street Fighter, Darkstalkers or Marvel vs. Capcom, go ahead and pick one of those up instead.

This game is like the show....the single greatest thing ever created by man! The game may be a little bit easy but you can always change the difficulty level to your preference. The game starts off with the captions in English and the characters voices in JAPANESE! I believe as the game progresses and you open the "Kagome's Backpack" feature you can change the voices to English. I love when games look arcade style so I instantly fell in love with the game. Especially considering the fact there aren't very many games anymore with the arcade style graphics. Dont get me wrong, new graphics are better and it probably would inhance the game quality, arcade style just seems to suit this game perfectly. This game will keep you amused for hours. If you are an Inuyasha fan, this is a MUST HAVE. Even if you aren't and you're just a gamer looking for a new entertaining game to play, buy this one. You won't regret it. Let me just note to PS2 owners: Don't make the same mistake I did. You must have a Playstation memory card to save this game. I didnt have one so I could save my game for a while....At any rate, go out and by this game!

For a Playstation fighting game, this is a pretty impressive.
The counterattack system is genius (press the X button to throw your opponent off guard) but rather broken considering there's no cool-down time to it and the computer will just spam the hell out of it. The roster's not too bad, having all the main characters for a total of 12 fighters. The sprites are decent and animation is fluid.
Fair warning for Inuyasha fans, the audio is all Japanese so if you thought you'd hear Richard Ian Cox, think again. Sure, the game could be better, especially the story mode but considering this was one of the last PS titles made it really isn't that bad.
If your a fan of Inuyasha or anime-based games, this might appeal to you.

My Review

I like the fact that I could buy this game on Ebay becuase I can't buy it where I live. The stores don't carry Inuyasha games anymore. I love the fact that I can but it new on Ebay than pay 20 extra dollars to pay for it at a store, if they carried it. I bought it becuase I like the anime Inuyasha and I like playing their characters in the video games.

I bought this game for my son and he really loves it. This is the game we were searching for in every store we could think of to go. There is nothing about this game that neither my son or myself dislike. I decided to buy this game on EBay when we could not find it in the stores around here. We even tried to find it outside our area to no avail except on EBay. He plays this game all the time and likes playing it. I also got this at a good price like anything I get off EBay and it was worth it.
