The Next Seinfeld but on Cable TV
Created: 28/02/10
Take the best elements from Seinfeld and Arrested Development and you have It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Combining the social-degenerate-buddy formula (three men, one woman) with the beyond-dysfunctional-family element, Philadelphia creates scenarios that are so hysterical, wrong, appalling, familiar, embarrassing, uncomfortable, and entertaining, the show is addictive like staring at a car wreck when you know you shouldn't, but you just can't look away; it's invigorating like a fresh, loud, wake-up slap on the face. The writing, the quick timing, and the performances are so natural, one wonders if anyone is even acting (but hopes to heaven they are). Danny DeVito joined the cast in the second season, in one of the best roles on TV. DeVito is "Frank," the buddy dad that just wants to be part of the gang, the dad that looks good on paper, but the experience for his kids is more like taking care of a vicious dog that isn't potty-trained. Three of his four talented cohorts (Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and Rob McElhenney) not only star in the series, but write it as well. Thanks to their new take on old themes and a willingness to stretch the boundaries of appropriateness and exploit the audiences' inner insecurities, originality is back on TV. However, you may find that there's too much whining and not much comedy value instead. I can see it both ways, but I greatly enjoy this show. I was also able to watch the entire first two seasons easily in one weekend. I bought this item on ebay because I knew I could find a better bargain than if I had gone to Walmart or another store.

Hillarious, a must have DVD!

I finally bought the DVD after watching the show on FX for a while. The premise of the show is that Charlie, Dennis, and Mac are co-owners of Paddy's Pub and Dennis' sister Dee works as the bartender. In season 2, Dennis and Dee's dad Frank [Danny DeVitto] joins the cast and becomes the primary of the now 4 co-owners of the bar.
This show is a lot edgier than most sitcoms and pulls no punches; don't buy this expecting something like Friends or Seinfeld. They deal with issues like racism, abortion, drug abuse, transexuals, and the list goes on. Again, this show is not for the easily offended.
A quick note on the DVD itself: It comes on three discs separated into two thinpak cases in a slip cover. As with most thinpak discs, there are no liner notes.
If it sounds like your sense of humor, definitely buy it.

Sunny is one of the best shows ever!

I love me some Sunny! Rob McElhenney is a comic genius, along with Charlie Day. Some of the best episodes are in the first and second season. Season 2 brings Danny Devito and he sets the show over the top. The series will be classic for years to come.

Great Show-Great Seasons-Hilarious
Created: 10/07/08
I love the fact that it's 2 seasons in one case. Danny DeVito is hilarious and is definitely the star and funniest guy on the show (even though he's only in season 2). Season 1 is still hilarious and I hope they come out with many more seasons to come. Definitely on my top 5 favorite tv series of all time. If you are interested in any of the following, I think we will have a strong interest in the same kind of shows and you will love "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

Very funny show, i watched the whole first disc after i watched the first episode and got addicted. DeVito doesn't come around until the 2nd season but both seasons are just as good. I love the show.
