Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (Sony PlayStation 2, 2001)

Ah, I remember this game (which is why I bought it, again)....It was my very first PS2 game, which is why I remember it so fondly. That, and the fact it was a fun game to play. If you like platforms, even just a bit, and have a PS2 (or a BC PS3) you should check this out, you can get it on the cheap, as it is pretty old.

It's a platformer type game, as I said before, and centers around two buddies, one whom ends up transformed by 'dark eco', and they set off to cure of of his malady (he was transformed into an animal. Naturally, there are bad guys and allies.

It has spawned a series, including one offshoot entitled "Jak X" I believe, and it is a racing game. The sequels are darker than this first one, which is light hearted, with banter (mostly Daxter's commenting/joking).

This game while at times a bit violent, is pretty light and fun. You can die, but you have unlimited "lives" so you can keep at something until you figure it out. You play the part of Jak a sort of hero in training and are accompanied by a ferret like creature (they call an Ottsel) that is your best friend changed by evil dark eco ... a destructive energy liquid/force in the game. You must help Jak overcome obstacles and solve quests to protect your world from those that want to control it using the dark eco. Games 2 & 3 are significantly darker in the plot-line than this game. The world you travel is green (mostly) and large. Some of the quests or if you prefer the game term "missions" are significantly difficult, but for the most part aren't too hard for the ones that move you through to the end of the game. Some call this a platform jumper, I suppose you can say that if you keep in mind it's a 360 degree 3D platform jumper ... meaning that sometimes there is more than one way to get to an area. Although you "kill" a number of your enemies, there's no blood and guts, usually only green eco left (used to heal Jak) after you defeat an enemy. You do have to have quick reflexes for certain missions, so if you have carpal tunnel syndrome or difficulty with fine motor skills ... I wouldn't recommend you get this.

Jak is a one of a kind action/adventure platform game that is fun for the whole family. Gameplay is fast and fun with a wide variety of things to do in the game. The story is fun to follow with some great characters including the oh so funny Daxter. Visuals are gorgeous (some of the best to hit the PS2). Controls are tight on-foot and in vehicles. Boss battles are a huge part of the game as well as the ability to harness light energy. Jak is an excellent character and a great mascot for Naughty Dog now that Crash is out of the picture. A+++ Must Have Title. 5/5

What I liked about this game is that it's simple, fun, and great for any age. I also liked the storyline and how the levels looked. If you are a fan of Crash Bandicoot Warped(also made by Naughty Dog), you will enjoy this game. Many aspects of game-play and even the soundtrack are similar.

The game was, however, a bit frustrating at times, especially toward the end. An example is when you are climbing a tower of platforms in the spider cave. You can spend ten minutes reaching the top and then easily miss the next platform or fall through a trapdoor and have to restart completely to get back to where you were. There was a lot of pointless repetition involved, so once I was about 80% through I got tired of that and felt like I wanted to finish the game up and get it over with.

OVERALL: I'd give it an 8 out of 10. This game would be best described as lighthearted and fun, with just the right amount of challenge, despite some annoyance with pointless repetition.

one of the awesome game of the year fun to play if your inrested in this game i got say well u just can't get enough of this & take my word for it this game is awesome to play if your gamer & u don't what to play this is it i recommend on this game it so worth playing 10 out 10 perfect
plus beleave gamers i got the worlds greatest to the worst & take from me i just love even the world dumdest game could be awesome on my book to graphic well don't see the problem with but all i can is a job well done sound hmmmm i hear just it perfecly the music i think i love videogame music i just can't get enough of it & the gameplay well as u see its like i all ready knew how to play when i got it at the store ready if u don't beleave what i say then take look at the game 4 yourself if u don't like it then don't play it plus the video game company work hard everyday to make it just the way we want game to be made u did me proud game comanys u win my vote
