Jeff Dunham - Spark of Insanity (DVD, 2007)

Adult humor and real experiences brought to the stage you can relate with is what this guy and his puppet buddies will deliver to you!

I was told about this guy by a friend who said that Jeff was great. I said "You actually watch a guy that makes a living with dolls and talks to himself?" He replied, "You will understand, just watch this!" So I sat down, started to watch this man and within a few minutes I was hooked on Jeff Dunham's stand-up act and then and all his buddies who just come to life right before your eyes!

Jeff Dunham is without a doubt one very talented individual. He actually builds, from scratch, some of the "Buddies" he uses in his show, and they are a hoot!!! I also believe he writes his own material which makes him one very smart but sarcastic "smart-ass" that you can relate your life with.

The funniest thing is that he picks on himself and the audience through his buddies who throw occasional insults at him while discussing life experiences we can all relate to which makes all of them seem REAL! These "buddies" also try to aggravate him with smarter than the average doll comments and have no problem dropping all kinds of words including the "F" bomb.

The characters include; a grumpy old man named "Walter" who has a consistent frown on his face and bitches about his life, his wife and gives Jeff crap about his life as well; a purple "Sesame Street looking" puppet named "Peanut" who moves like he is on crack or speed and is the biggest smart ass of them all; a skeleton with working eyeballs who is a dead terrorist named "Achmed" that is always shouting "Silence!!! I kill you!!!", a jalopino pepper on a stick named "Jose'" who fights with Peanut while Jeff tries to play referee; a black man named "Sweet Daddy D" who Jeff claims is his manager, and last but not least a super hero with a huge nose named "Melvin" who talks about his "cloth piercing x-ray vision" and accidentally loses his hairpiece which embarrasses him during the show.

I laugh till my gut hurts each time I watch this guy! Rent it if you don't believe me, but I am telling you once again, If adult humor and extreme laughter is what you enjoy, check Jeff out! All of his DVD's are worth getting!

Jeff Dunham and his five crazy, out of this world set of friends, prove their valor again in this hilarious stand-up comedy special. Jeff starts off his special with his puppet Walter, an opinionated, and sarcastic old man, who, is not afraid or ashamed to speak his mind. His "I don't give a damn" attitude says it all. Jeff then introduces a new puppet, Achmed the dead terrorist. Achmed was a suicide bomber, who, sucessfully blew himself up, but that was it. With his twisted sense of humor, he fits right in with the rest of the gang. Jeff then brings out Melvin the superhero. Melvin nose, I mean knows no fear. He has x-ray vision and can stop a speeding bullet, once. His arch nemesis is Pinocchio. Did I mention he can fly as far as Jeff can throw him? Next Jeff brings out the one and only Peanut. This off the wall, energetic, outspoken, and hilarious purple puppet, is one of a kind! He has no shame! He loves giving Jeff's fifth puppet, Jose Jalapeno on a Stick, a hard time. Jose is very calm but still very funny. Don't worry, he is here legally. Jeff and his unforgettable puppets will keep you laughing from beginning to end.

Jeff talks about: his new powder-blue Prius, his H1 HUMMER and gas mileage while eating Prius', his wifes 3 lb Chihuahua Darvy, his 3 daughters, Bill - his 80 lb Golden Retriever, Chihuahua puppies, and the Chihuahua on-a-stick.

This DVD also contains acts by: Walter, Achmed the Terrorist, Melvin the SuperHero, Peanut, and Jose Jalapeno.

Bonus Features include a short story on the creation and making of his puppets/dolls, which features the making of Melvin(starting out in a hotel room).

It's not hard to see why Jeff Dunham took the number one spot in Comedy Central's Stand-Up Showdown in January 2008 with this album! Just like his other DVD, Arguing with Myself, he puts the comedic pedal to the metal and never lets up. From his initial stand-up routine; to his new ventriloquist dummies, Achmed the Dead Terrorist and Melvin the Superhero; to Walter, Jose the Jalapeno, and Peanut; this is a total, laugh-out-loud performance worth owning.

Dunham excels at using his "friends" to put across edgy material with a twist. Achmed the Dead Terrorist gives him a voice about terrorism that is unique. Even when Melvin the Superhero has a wardrobe malfunction- his hair falls off- Dunham adlibs and makes it a hysterical part of the routine. Perhaps the most astonishing part of his performance is when he hilariously promotes his website for two minutes, using Peanut as a vehicle.

If you love ventriloquists, Spark of Insanity is a must have DVD. If you are sensitive to edgy subject matter or are offended by four-letter language, you might consider another comedian. Having said that, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND this DVD!

What can I say, I love this act! Jeff is super, you never see his mouth move, he banters back and forth with his cast of characters, he can be so fast, it's amazing, he's really, really good! And... did I mention FUNNY !!! He's soo good, well worth watching and sharing over and over again. Can't get enough of Peanut and the gang!! I've loved his specials on Comedy Central and his new show on Thursday evening. He pokes fun, or rather, his gang, pokes fun at everyone, i.e. a Mexican pepper, a white loser from the back country, a black pimp-type guy, on and on. Hey, don't get offended, it's only a comedy act, and besides, he's not talking, it's PEANUT (I LOVE, L O V E PEANUT!!), Walter, the nasty old guy, the Jalapeno Pepper...on a stick-Jose', and of course, Achmed, the dead terrorist!!! (don't forget to spit when you Ach-med. It's the only way to say his name, so he says... lol). I love when Achmed says, "and I keeel YOU!" So, watch this fun & very funny performer, who has polished his act to a shiney perfection with brilliance. He's worth your time! Rachel Robinson
