Album Notes
Producers: John Lennon, Phil Spector, Yoko Ono, Jack Douglas.THE JOHN LENNON COLLECTION was originally released on vinyl by Geffen. The CD has 4 extra tracks and contains the complete unedited version of "Happy X-mas" and the single version of "Stand By Me." Original master tapes were used as sources tapes for this disc.Lennon's solo career began with Unfinished Music No 1 - Two Virgins. The sleeve depicted him and Ono standing naked, and the cover became better known than the disjointed sound effects contained within. Three months later Lennon issued Unfinished Music No 2 - Life With The Lions. The Plastic Ono Band enjoyed radical hits with 'Give Peace A Chance', 'Cold Turkey' and 'Instant Karma'. The groundbreaking John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band, released in January 1971 was both brilliant and disturbing. The following year Sometime In New York City was issued. At the end of a comparatively quiet 1973, Lennon released Mind Games, an album that highlighted problems between him and Yoko. November 1974, he made his last ever concert appearance when he appeared onstage at Madison Square Garden with Elton John.Rock 'N' Roll was released the next year; it was a tight and energetic celebration of many of his favourite songs, including 'Stand By Me'. Five years later, Double Fantasy was issued. The following month, with fans still jubilant at Lennon's return, he was suddenly brutally murdered by a gunman outside his apartment building in Manhattan.

What can you say about one of the greatest poets in history?
This CD was all I expected and more! A great compilation of John Lennon's work, with a hint of Yoko thrown in for fun. There are a few songs that are a little on the commercial side - Cold Turkey and Move Over Ms. L., and Dear Yoko might have been better left between the two of them. The rest of the CD is a joy to listen to, highly recommended. Owning Instant Karma to play over and over at your leisure is a real treat. May GOD rest Mr. Lennon's soul.

A nice familiar grouping

Created: 06/10/08
Most of us who grew up with The Beatles and if we listened real hard, could recognize the individual styles of the main three.

This CD is a nice and familiar grouping of the songs we grew and changed into young adults, accepting the breakup of the Beatles and acknowledged the individual directions that John, Paul and George took. It's pleasant to hear John's creative mind through his music after 1970. I know that he both mirrored and reflected many of the conflicts and pains that I was experiencing in the early 70's. I also lived in New York City.

I find it easy to listen to early Beatles records and can really hear John's input. Let there be no doubt, at least in my humble opinion, that he was the driving force of the group.

This CD works nicely and is well "ordered." I am pleased to own it.

The John Lennon Collection

John Lennon was the major force in Rock & Roll and still is. He had a clever writing style. He was ahead of his time and truly missed. He was a true peace advocate and brought happiness to his listeners. This is his best solo music collection. Bar None!

The John Lennon Collection

Bought this Cd mostly for 3 songs that were included on it. The other songs are o.k., but I can you compare Imagine to any of his other hits! It is definitely worth buying if you like John Lennon.
