Judge Dredd (DVD, 1998)

I first saw this movie when it came out on video, and still to this day I like it. The plot isn't much different from any other action movie; basically the good guy gets framed and has to prove his innocence.
But as far as action goes it's nearly non stop and exciting to watch. I love the huge robot, and the cyborg from the cannibal family (awesome makeup job!!!).

it's not anywhere near as bad as some other action comic book films like the Halle Berry Catwoman movie, or Electra. It's not exactly the most cutting edge movie, but entertaining none the less. i watch movies for entertainment more than the plots (which are basically all the same anyway).

i love futuristic sci-fi action flicks so this one is decent in my opinion. Stallone plays the no-nonsense Dredd quite well, and even talks like he has a bit of brains compared to how he talks in the Rocky films. Rob Schnieder plays his annoying whinny sidekick, but he's not quite as annoying as Chris Tucker in the Fifth Element, who is the worst movie character ever!!
Ammand Assante plays the psycho villan role quite well, as well as the woman paying Judge Hershey does a good job with her role; who seems to be a bit of love interest for Dredd.
i like Max von sydnow as the chief justice and Dredd's father figure, always good to see him in a movie.

I've never read the comic book so I can't compare the movie to that, but compared to other comic book movies, this one isn't that bad. It may not be as popular as Superman or the many Marvel movies, but it's still a decent one to watch for a bit of variety. not every comic book character has to have super powers, so this is a good alternative. The story isn't bad either as Dredd learns the truth of his past, which alot of people can relate to.

If you like the movie, buy the DVD. If not, then no amount of explaination or review will ever do. My only complaint would be the lack of deleted scenes or any behind the scenes footage that most movies have now.

Great movie for Judge Dredd comic fans! Excellent special effects throughout movie! Stallone was excellent in this role as Judge Dredd, he appeared physically fit and confident as the lead actor in this action filled movie. The support actors were also great and the bad guy, played his role to the tee. The movie could have been a little longer, a extended ending to the finale, the redemption of Judge Dredd would have been nice. The DVD should have extra features that showed the making of this movie would have been nice.

Judge Dredd is a pretty good comic book to movie action film. Judge Dredd is full of action and excitement. Stallone is great as Judge Dredd and Rob Schneider is great as his whiny, bumbling sidekick.

Don't expect a great story, or superb acting, just watch this movie and enjoy it for what it is meant to be, an action filled thrill ride.

Judge Dredd features some of my favorite Sylvester Stallone action scenes and one of the Baddest Villians ever.

Rent or Buy?: If you're a huge action fan or a Sly fan this is a must buy. If not, rent it and enjoy.

Judge Dredd has problems as a film. Its based on a comic book series that's loved by many but, I'm sure they were let down by this film. Some of the characters are pathetic and their acting's weak. Not to mention Stallone who brings a more "ridiculous" side to Dredd. He definiitely did a better job in demolition man.

Being a huge 2000AD fan, I was stoked to hear about the movie being in production. However when it opened, it was abit of a letdown due to the poor storyline and misuse of characters within the movie.
However the sets and the suits were awesome and that was probably the saving grace of the entire movie. I purchased this DVD so as to help my research and development in scrathcbuilding the Judges costume.
For the price I paid, it's worth watching a second time, even a third time round, if not for the story, at least for the visuals.
