Album Notes
Heart: Nancy Wilson (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, dulcimer, mandocello, mandolin, harmonica); Ann Wilson (vocals); Craig Bartock (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, E-bow, Mellotron, marimba, background vocals); Darian Sahanaja (keyboards); Mike Inez (bass instrument, bass guitar, tambourine); Ben Smith (drums).Additional personnel: Jerry Cantrell, Mike McCready (guitar). When Heart went into a hiatus of sorts in the mid-1990s, Nancy Wilson delved into film scoring, periodically joining her sister Ann in the acoustic duo the Lovemongers. The long absence of Heart left fans hoping for a new studio album, with fingers crossed that a return to the band's roots was inevitable. The 16 tracks that make up 2004's JUPITER'S DARLING are rife with rock-solid writing, passionate vocals, and seasoned musicianship. With help from the overflowing well of Seattle talent (including guest guitarists Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and Jerry Cantrell, formerly of Alice in Chains), the group includes rock bass veteran Mike Inez (Ozzy Osbourne, Alice in Chains). Love lost, and better left behind, is the prevailing theme strung across "Make Me," "Perfect Goodbye," and the heavy-grooving "Move On." "Oldest Story in the World" aims a pointed finger at the media, while "Vainglorious" shoots an arrow at its self-obsessed target. A Zeppelinesque spirit is channeled through "Things," "Enough," and the homesick "Led to One." Strangely familiar and yet distinctly of its time, JUPITER'S DARLING is a welcome return, sure to please both old and new Heart fans.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 - [Heart] still have a tangible appetite for combustion, their choruses big, their lovin' reassuringly hard, and their sibling harmonies enduringly robust.
Mojo

3 stars out of 5 - [A] throwback to their '70s pomp, from the imperious classic rock of 'Make Me' to the patchouli-scented 'Things'. Above all, they sound like they're having fun...
Q

Ann and Nancy Wilson deliver their hit formula....They also give us neatly crafted, finely detailed departures...
Entertainment Weekly

3 stars out of 5 - [T]he Wilsons return to their early form. The production - by Nancy and guitarist Craig Bartock - gives Ann's voice the powerhouse space it deserves...

This one is for Heart fans

Created: 13/10/09
I've been a fan of Heart since '77 and have seen them live three times over the past year. The magic of those LP's they did in my youth can never be equaled. Who else can equal their old material anyway? Perhaps it's because times are different today and many people get their songs online. This release is the sound of two ladies who have matured and I love it. The sound is fresh and modern with a tinge of country and folk which were never prevalent on older recordings, but there are also some rockers as well. Several of the songs were performed on the "Live in Seattle" and "Soundstage Live" DVD's. "Lost Angel" and "The Perfect Goodbye" are two noteworthy contributions. I don't know what the critics said, but you like a perfect blend of acoustic and electric guitars with Ann and Nancy's always outstanding vocals, you will enjoy "Jupiter's Darling".

after seeing heart in concert recently thought id take a shot at this cd, hadnt previously heard it . to my great surprise its terrific, 60+ minutes of hard rockers and great ballads, ann in usual faboulous voice but i dont think ive ever heard nancy sound better, everything from driving guitars to gentle mandolins IMHO their best album overall this album should have been a monster hit. with the pitiful state of music today, this album was a terrific surprise

Jupiters Darling

Great CD from the greatest ladies in rock 'n roll! Ann & Nancy do it again and I have no idea why this album didn't receive the airplay that it deserved. It's a fabulous album with wonderful rock 'n roll songs that should have had some top 10 songs. These ladies just don't get the respect that they so richly deserve! If you're a Heart fan, get this album! You'll love it.

The Return of the Wilson Sisters

This album is their best since Passionworks. Great rockers with the feel and intensity of their earliest albums. Saw them on tour in support of this album and the songs really hold up live. If you're a Heart fan, you won't be disappointed. If your curious, then Jupiter's Darling is worth buying.
