Appropriately titled movie.

Although this movie was largely ignored, this indie film is a gem comprised of two powerful performances by a veteran and up and comer. Michael Douglas gives a wonderfully believable performance and Evan Rachel Wood is at times captivating in this father daughter story of a released mental patient hellbent on achieving an impossible and at times lunatic notion of buried treasure in the outer fringes of a california town and a daughter who is at best very skeptical about the validity of his claims. But, since he is her father, she has no choice but to help him in his endeavour at the same time trying to hold down a job in order to pay the bills. It is a touching depiction of how a failed father is struggling to prove his point despite the insanity label put on him and a daughter that loves him but is not always willing to go along with his harebrained ideas. I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5 and would recommend it to any Michael Douglas fan.

Michael Douglas gives a wonderful performance as Charlie, a recently released mental patient in this heartwarming movie.
His connection with his daughter Miranda (Evan Rachel Wood), is typical of most relationships parents have with their young adult children.
The tells a story of how the two of them find a common understanding and a place where love can happen between them and leads up to a great ending that will warm your heart.
There are a few rough points and some places are difficult to follow, but overall the movie is well worth watching.
Rated 4 of 5 for another wonderful performance by Michael Douglas.

Love it...My Father said the movie made him think of me...I bought a copy for both my sister and self from our dad for Christmas. Also, my great grandfather had an orange grove in middle California where I used to wonder around and daydream as a child. The scenery in this movie makes me think of that time in my life. With the great wit and dry humor throughout the movie, this one is a modern favorite of mine. It's a gem.

A different Kirk Douglas film. could be a true life situation and the problems a family entails with a supposedly mental parent and the child is taking responsibility and being the role of the parent in this situation.

I feel this is one of Michael Douglas's finest films. Also if you like this movie, try "the Fisher King" next.
Enjoy!
