King of the Monsters 2 (Super Nintendo, 1994)

King of the Monsters 2 is a great title if you loved the arcade gaming and SNES era, but I probably wouldn't suggest buying it otherwise. The story line is ridiculous (loosely akin to the latest Monsters vs Aliens movie/game series), but that isn't why anyone would play KOTM2. Instead, one might buy KOTM2 to experience the simple side scrolling arcade game that it is.

In short: In KOTM2 the player plays the role of an 'Earthly' monster with the goal of destroying the alien invaders. Three characters are available - a dragon, a large 'Atomic Man', and a giant mechanical monkey - with differing attacks and special moves, but they are practically the same. There are 7 or so levels which include some generally attractive-nostalgic artwork, but there isn't anything incredibly impressive about the game. The music is enjoyable enough, but I'm a nut for video game music and I'd understand if other people would find it annoying.

Anyways, it's usually a cheap buy and I'd suggest it to early SNES or arcadee gaming fans. However, that said, as an arcade game - the game difficulty was constructed to make gaming arcades money. Bosses are difficult and fight with cheap knock-down moves, lives run out quick (continues are available), and the combat can be frustrating.
