Movie synopsis

Screenwriter Shane Black of LETHAL WEAPON fame makes his directorial debut with this film noir gem. Robert Downey, Jr., stars as Harry Lockhart, a petty thief in New York City who quite literally stumbles into acting and soon finds himself in Los Angeles to test for a film role as a private detective. To help Harry prepare, his new agent arranges for him to shadow a gay private investigator, Perry van Shrike--also known as "Gay Perry" (Val Kilmer). But when Perry takes Harry along on a simple job for a mystery client, the two witness the disposal of a dead body, and the game suddenly becomes serious. Adding to the intrigue is Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), a beautiful and smart-as-a-whip wannabe starlet with whom Harry is so smitten that he pretends to be a real detective. Soon Harry, Perry, and Harmony are tangled in a life-threatening web of dead bodies, deception, and treachery.Downey is a delight, exhibiting perfect comic timing while infusing Harry with just enough heart to show that, despite appearances, he really is a good guy. Kilmer is the ideal buddy for Downey, playing the no-nonsense private investigator Perry with the right mixture of machismo and stereotypical Tinseltown superficiality. As Harry's dream girl, Harmony, Monaghan embodies the good girl whose dreams are looking more and more unobtainable--and who has clearly been around the block a few times. Top-notch performances combined with Black's wickedly amusing banter and a plot laden with twists and turns make this action-thriller a treat.

*~*~ An "OK" to Decent Film ~*~*

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang comes rated as an Average Film. It starts out on the dry side, but becomes more interesting as the movie goes on. We enjoyed the cast: Val Kilmer, Robert Downey Jr, and Michelle Monaghan. This is supposedly from the Creator of Leathal Weapon, but you cannot really tell as it doesnt compare to any of the Lethal Weapons movies. Robert Downey Jr narrates the movies all the way through, which was somewhat of a turn off. Overall, it ended up being a decent movie.

Rent It or Buy It? We would recommend RENTING IT FIRST to see if you'll like it.

We would watch it again, but not too many more times.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (DVD, 2006)

LUV this film! Have always thought and continue to feel Robert Downey Jr. should have received Academy Award for his performance in 'Chaplin' = one of our great all - time actors ... his timing is impeccible ~ comedy/drama/action ... he can do it all very well indeed. He does another super job in this film with a fresh twist in the story line /witty bantering between his character and that played by Val Kilmer (another favorite) who portrays a macho (gay) detective. Everything is done well in this film and the pace moves along quickly with good editing/musical score. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for ADULTS only!

Well, Well, Okay Okay

Created: 12/07/07
This movie actually features two actor that have played or will play comic book superheroes! Val Kilmer was the Batman, and Robert Downey Jr will be Iron Man in the 2008 movie.

However in this movie, Val Kilmer is a little stiff in his portrayal of the dectective, while Robert gives a good portrayal.

The movie is a little disjointed, but it appears the director wanted it to be that way...

Tina, (my wife), enjoyed the movie, while it was just Okay for me.

The narration by Robert's character was a little off-beat, and the flashbacks were a little off period.

The movie was good enuff for a rental DVD, don't think I would buy it for my DVD Film Library though!

KISS KISS, BANG BANG -- FUNNY FUNNY, WHODUNIT WHODUNIT

Created: 15/09/06
Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. play well in this funny whodunit murder mystery. Both play characters who inadvertently stumble upon each others paths and form a unique bond in order to solve a mystery that just keeps getting deeper and deeper.

The movie is a bit different in that Downey Jr. narrates in between scenes to give context to the movie. The only aspect that one might find offensive is the language, but Kilmer has something to offer in order to compensate for this in the very last scene; the very last line of the movie. If you live in the heart of the Midwest and find yourself offended by the language, take heart for Kilmer's message at the end of the movie.

Also, for a spectacular scene of comedic ingenuity ... watch for the Russian Roulette scene. If you're like most people, you'll gasp and then bust out laughing! Really, I'm not kidding.

The coolest movie I've seen in years!

Created: 12/08/07
KISS KISS, BANG BANG is a very funny and fresh take on the detective genre. It's one of those films that just gets better with repeated viewings. It was written and directed by Shane Black. The creator of the Lethal WEAPON series, THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, and THE LAST BOYSCOUT. I think this is his best work. You'll love this movie, and want to turn all your friends on to it. Trust me.
