this 2.1 system is the rock. There are many like it, but this is one of the few really really excellent 2.1 systems. Especially if you get one used/like-new for about $70 on ebay. And there are many to be had for a bargain on ebay, which makes this a top choice in my book.

The sound from the little speakers is very clear, and balanced very well by the surprisingly clear and deep and powerful subwoofer. The overall sound is excellent and probably at least as good as, if not better than average home stereos. The set can play very loud and still sound clear and clean. There are limits due to the small size of the speakers, but it's surprising sound they produce. It can even be used as a home sound system on a budget for medium sized rooms, and is especially good for smaller rooms like a bedroom. For it's intended purpose, parked by your computer, it's simply the best PC speaker system I've ever heard. I like to keep the sub under the desk and you can really feel it! This speaker system makes a great match with an mp3 player or portable CD player, that sort of thing, for a small budget kick-butt sound system. The speakers cables are fairly long(over 10ft) so you have some options where you want to place the speakers.

The main drawback is that there is no remote, so you have to be able to reach the knob (located on one one of the speakers) to control the volume and sub level. Not a problem if it's there next to your monitor, or nightstand. Of course if you have it hooked to an Ipod or other portable player you can control the volume from the player itself. The other thing to keep in mind is that the on/off switch is on the subwoofer unit, and mine makes a popping sound when I turn it on/off. That's not good, so it's best to leave it turned on, which draws a little power just sitting there. My Klipsch 4.1 set has the on/off knob by the volume control, and that is more handy. Still, not a big deal.

The thing that may be the biggest drawback for many people is that there is only one sound input. Just one cable with a headphone jack that you can plug in to your computer, or mp3 player, etc. Some other more expensive speaker setups have multiple input options, so you could have it connected to your PC, Ipod, etc, at the same time and switch between them. Not with this unit. But you can get a thing that will switch inputs, from radio shack. So it's not a deal breaker.

This is one of the top 2.1 sets you can get, especially because you can get a nice used one for cheap on Ebay like I did. But after living with my Klipsch 4.1 for years (still rocking after 8 years!) I would pay full price for one of these, over the other products out there. The only thing better is the 4.1!

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 200 Watts 31Hz-20kHz 106db

Pros...
Not only one of the best 2.1 stereo stand alone speaker systems but arguably the best three piece desktop computer speakers around. Klipsch known for their high frequency horns paired with a 3" mid-range cone in each of the two satellites along with the 11 pound sub with its 6.5" woofer produce a combined peak 200 watt output and the most satisfying sounds even when set at low listening volume.

With its bass response and volume control knobs sound can be dialed in. For full enjoyment use of a decent sound card is recommended, the speakers will respond to even minor adjustments and options (THX certified). Auxiliary jack for headphone output and a stero input jack can be adapted for just about any need (1Pod, gaming, TV, etc.) besides the separate wire lead for plugging into a computer/laptop.

Cons...
There are known issues, like the connecting plug (DIN) from the control pod to the sub (preamp in) failing due to flexing over time or a direct hit could damage the cord wiring. This issue seems to have been addressed in newer models where the plug is now at a right angle and fastens flat against the sub panel. For older models the plug can be repaired/replaced.
Internally, the sub's operating temperature can cause premature failing of electronic parts. These parts can be replaced or upgraded for continued listening enjoyment as the overall system is well worth minor repair costs.

All in all you really need to hear it to believe it, you won't be disappointed.

Can't Go Wrong

First what this is not. It isn't a "Audiophile" grade speaker system.
But for the 98% of the population with less than perfect ears it fits the bill. In my situation it is connected to my computer. Works great for internet radio, MP3's, CD's, and the occasional DVD. A headphone jack is conveniently provided on the control pod. Plus there is an input for your Walkman,Ipod etc. The only minus would be the bass gets "boomy" if you're heavy handed with the bass setting. (Klipsch recommends setting @ the 10 O'clock position) Overall the best computer(multimedia) speaker system available.

Great 2.1!

Created: 05/02/09
These speakers are great for desktop gaming and media. The subwoofer produces strong bass and the headphone/input jacks on the speaker are very convenient. The sound isn't flawless, but it's very good. Without a doubt one of the best values in 2.1.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 2 Speakers

Created: 05/04/10
The speakers are powerful, provide excellent tone including ample bass. The only thing I am not pleased with is the product's lack of a convenient headphone input. The other high end products all offer this feature, at these price Klipsch should too. End of gripe, overall a great product.
