A Knight in Shining Armor
Created: 08/01/07
This book has to be the best romantic -- not soupy romance -- book written. It's about a love that takes place over a 400 year time and, without being ridiculous, takes the reader across time zones. Not only does the reader laugh at a 16th century man suddenly in the 20th century, but the reader also cries at the thought of sudden separation between these two lovers. While the though of time travel seems far fetched, Ms. Deveraux does so in way that the reader thinks "this can be plausible!" The ending is superb and is perfect for the book! I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading! But beware, you won't be able to put it down!!

Knight in Shining Armor book review

I read this book many years ago, and loved it! It is one of my favorite books, and Ms. Devaraux is truly a master story teller! I never read a book more then once, and have read this one three times! I shared the book with my aunt, and she also fell in love with it. I have read other Jude Devaraux books and loved them all....but this one, and 'Wishes' are tops on my list! I bought this book, and the updated version, and 'Wishes' for a friend in the UK....she had never heard of them, and they were good enough to share. I love the time travel/romance/fantasy genre...lends a whole new layer to the whole story.

possibly the worst book I've read!

I can't understand the glowing reviews of this book. I had to put it down at least three times, but I admit that I did actually finish reading it. The two main problems with this book are 1) the character of the "heroine" and 2) the plot.
The "heroine" is the most pathetic romantic heroine I've ever encountered. She is a complete doormat, with no self respect, no sense of self worth, no brains... I could go on. She seems to evoke pity from the "hero" for much of the story. As far as I can see, she has no qualities that actually appeal to him (or me). He stays with her just to protect her and try to keep her from doing many stupid things. I grew so infuriated with the way she allowed herself to be treated that I had to put the book down repeatedly. I don't expect (or like) all romance novel women to be strident feminists, but this one was way outside the normal range of annoyingly pandering females who suddenly act rashly and bring about strange twists to the story.
The plot was bizarre and not well managed. (warning - spoilers!) The idea that she would be transported through time if she had physical intimacy with the hero was just ridiculous. The ending of the story, which involves the complete re-characterization of all the secondary characters (annoying/mean characters suddenly become nice and friendly) was bizarre and lacked any sort of plausible explanation. It made the story seem disjointed and completely lacked any sort of progress that made slogging through this book worthwhile. There were no clues to pick up through the story as to why these things suddenly were different. They just simply happened... "poof!".
I was extremely annoyed with having spent any of my hard-earned money on this book. I don't usually read this author, and I would not recommend this book to anyone. It is complete trash.

It was recommended by a friend. I have since read so many more books by Jude Deveraux. She is a very good writer, keeps your interest in every chapter.
