Maya Angelou's words roll off the page...

Maya Angelou's words roll off the page with such ease and grace. She paints a vivid picture of life in the south as a young girl. The povery, heartache, ingnorance, and struggle are poignant, yet so is her innocence, joy in life and her love of family. With her flowing words she opens up a window into another time and place. I was really drawn into this autobiographical work and found it hard to put down.

Maya Angelou is a very good descriptive writer. I now have a better understanding of what it was like being a young black woman growing up in the south prior to WWII. I found it so compelling,I had to add it to my own personal library. What a great read!

Author from Arkansas my home state. Haven't completely finished it, but anyone that enjoyed "The Help" would enjoy this book. It doesn't not have the comedy parts, but story of life in the South during the years prior to desegregation. I was too young to be a part of their hard times, but saddens me to know how they were treated.
