Krups XP2070 Espresso Machine & Coffee Maker
Created: 11/04/09
The results from this espresso machine are consistently excellent. I love the taste and creama from it. Because it is automatic, however, you must be consistent in your grinding and tamping. If you are using a chopping blade cutter/grinder, invest in a mill that grinds consistently. The tamper provided, is useless but will give a bit of time to get a proper one. If the grind and tamp is not consistent, then the amount of espresso will change between cups due to the automatic pump programming. The machine memory will make exactly the same amount of espresso each time according to the programmed amount you set if the grind and tamp are the same. I like this feature for convenience and consistency.
This machine has a relatively small water reservoir for the size of machine. And, the water catch tray is also undersized. This results in having to deal with water fill and waste while making only a couple cups of cappuccino. While this is manageable, it is annoying. Also, if you are going to make more than one double shot cappuccinos, all the milk needs to be steamed at one time in a larger pitcher because the machine will only go into the steam setting one time without cooling back down to the brewing temperature in between. This, too, is annoying if you are used to having full control of your machine. To do the cooling, the machine uses more water which ends up in the waste tray and effectively limits how much cappuccino can be made without refilling the water and emptying the waste water tray.
The machine is bigger than my old Krups 863, but not by too much. It does take some counter space and is heavy enough that you won’t want to be moving it around. Unfortunately, to fill the water tank, the machine cannot be sitting under a common kitchen cupboard as you will not have enough space above to get the reservoir out to fill. So to avoid moving the machine around all the time, plan for counter space that is unobstructed above the machine. It does replace two other machines however so it does actually save some space.
The froth attachment has the small vent hole that allows anyone to perfectly froth the milk. You really have no choice whether to use it or not if you like to froth milk the “old fashioned” way. If you remove it, the steam spout is not long enough to go into a pitcher, so get over it and use the frothing attachment. It does work quite well. Also, this machine has enough pressure and heat that your milk will reach temperature quickly.
I must admit I haven’t used the coffee side of the machine much because the cappuccino is great. The coffee side does work well and has its own water reservoir. The filter latches in securely to make sure the coffee stops running out if you like to get that first strong cup before the pot is finished. There is a timer to have the coffee ready in the morning when you get up, if that is your lifestyle.
The Clock / Timer is not very convenient in that you must scroll through to the set time whenever you use it. It doesn’t remember when you set it, yesterday.
All in all, it is a nice machine and is easy to use for consistent flavor.

TOP QUALITY COFFEE & ESPRESSO MAKER!
Created: 27/11/07
This is the king of combination coffee/espresso makers!
First of all... it has a sleek, clean design and doesn't take up much counter space.
Then... the owner's manual is easy to understand and the machine is easy to use. In no time at all... you'll be brewing gourmet quality coffee and espresso.
And... this machine brews hotter than any machine I've used. Not only does it make excellent espresso... it makes the best coffee I've ever tasted (the heat really makes a difference).
Finally... the machine is easy to clean and maintain... but... if you have any issues... the manufacturer's warranty is excellent and it's easy to get service at any authorized KRUPS service center. So... be sure to register your machine online for full warranty coverage.
If you get a chance to buy this item for less than $300... don't pass it up!
Happy Brewing!

This machine is fantastic IF IF IF you do not get a lemon. I lucked out. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my machine and it makes incredible espresso and as promised, "perfect" froth every time. I wouldhave paid the the $350 that this machine sells for but luckily I didn't have to. I will tell you that my Dad has this same machine and his has a water leak that some people have complained about. It is not a big leak (maybe a tbsp)but I could see why that would annoy people ho paid good money and can't get good customer service. His machine also varies the amount of espresso that it puts out each time and when filling 2 shot glasses will occassionally fill them unevenly. That has never bothered me because my espresso goes straight into my drink cup. Some people have said that the coffee side does not allow you to pour while it's still brewing, NOT TRUE! The coffee and espresso are hot and good. But again, I would suggest buying this machine somewhere that will exchange it for you should you have anyof these issues. If you really want good espresso and can't afford the big names, this is the way to go.

Please, Please avoid this product. Horrible support

I purchased this product new and from the start I've had little issues. The espresso side of the machine has worked well for the first few weeks so far, but the coffee side is another story. The coffee carafe is too short to open the drip-stop valve that stops the flow of coffee so you can pour a cup while coffee is still brewing. This results in the coffee basket overflowing everywhere unless I physically hold the carafe up against the basket to open the flow valve. This could be either one of two things, either the lid on the carafe is malformed and not tall enough or the trigger on the drip-stop valve is not extending low enough. Either one could be a cheap easy fix for Krups simply by sending me a replacement part. Krups ONLY remedy is for me to pack this one week old machine up and mail it from Texas to California to a service center where it will remain for weeks. The Illinois service center is so backlogged, they aren't taking service issues. This is completely unacceptable. I have spent an hour searching the internet for management names and contacts, but this company hides behind it's web site. The only contact is through the site and frankly, I'm not impressed. This is a privately owned company that feels it's not accountable to the US consumer. Had I known this prior to this purchase, I would have let someone else deal with these (Adam Henry's).
Please, understand I'm not a complainer, but I do expect reasonable support for such an expensive item. Krups, as a company, has a long way to go to gain my respect. This will be the last product with the Krups name you'll see in my home.

A good, versatile machine at an affordable price.
| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Krups 2070 is a very versatile machine, well-designed and easy to use. It makes excellent coffee and a good cup of espresso with a nice crema. Higher end machines will make a stronger cup with more crema, but cost you at least twice as much and will make only espresso. If you have a small kitchen and room for only one coffeemaker this is it.
The only shortcoming of this product is that the control electronics aren't as robust as the rest of the machine. I've had two of these machines, purchased on ebay and both of them have had some problems with the control board. My first machine was working fine but as the board got worse and worse, I could no longer make espresso with it. I purchased a second machine on ebay and it was fine for a few months but now the control board is failing. Fortunately I was able to find a replacement board on ebay, so I will soon be doing a transplant in my original machine.
