Kung Pow!: Enter the Fist if you dare!
Created: 01/07/06
The Director Steve Oedekerk wrote, produced, and stared in this funny martial arts film, which he made by re-dubbing and digitally inserting himself into an old 1976 Kung Fu film called Tiger and Crane Fist. Oedekerk plays The Chosen One (named was given to him because of his magically tongue) who grows up without a family because his family was murdered by the evil Master Pain--who also later changes his name to Betty, which is a women’s name. Hunted and attacked continuously without mercy, The Chosen One had eventually found shelter at the Crane School, where he falls in love with an extremely strange maiden and finds out how to avenge his families deaths. The Chosen One also encounters a chick with a very uncommon breast, the French aliens, the martial arts-expert cow, and many other digitally animated wonders.

You have everything from a baby rolling down a hill to a bad guy changing his name to "Betty" or the Cyclops of...uh.. well, you'll have to see that one to believe it. Steve's movie is an absolute masterpiece. The cow sequence with it's nod to Matrix is just great. I've laughed everytime I've watched it and that's saying a lot. Hot Shots 1 & Deux are funny but how many times can you watch it and laugh each time??? No worries with this one. Just make sure when you bid on this that you are getting the one that's the "Chosen Edition" it has all the outtakes and special effects and is as funny as the movie was/is.

Kung Pow is kung fu satire at its best. While it does contain silly/stupid humor, little quips and comments and quotes the characters make (who, by the way, are all done by Steve Oedekerk, aka the Chosen One) make it a gem. If you've never seen it, watch it understanding that it relies heavily on silliness and absurdity, and then make your judgement as it goes along.
In reply to the first review, if you judge any movie by the first ten minutes, you may only be skimming the tip of the iceberg.

Fung Pow dvd

I am a long time martial artist. Like a lot of us, I enjoy martial arts movies. With the exception of Jackie Chan, most of them are pretty serious at least in intent. Kung Pow literally pulls no punches. There is NO doubt that it is absolutely ridiculous. My son and I have sat and watched this dvd probably 4-5 times since we received it (maybe 2 weeks ago). Every viewing makes us both laugh harder. We quote excerpts from scenes all the time and are driving everyone crazy, especially when he and I burst into laughter (WEEOOOO). We have a lot of movies, all types, from serious to musicalS to Fung Pow. It is truly one of our favorites. EVERYBODY should see it, totally entertaining and totally insane.

When watching the previews this movie looked hilarious but when my wife and I went to see in the theater we couldn't stand it and actually walked out after 30 minutes, this was the ONLY movie I ever walked out on. I also gave it another try when I saw it on TV and watched it all the way through. I think the only reason I didn't like this movie was that everything in it was a joke. Kind of like how Naked Gun and Hot Shots movies make jokes of almost everything, but this movies raises the bar and literally makes jokes of EVERYTHING that is going on. The only thing that made me laugh was the baby rolling down the hill. Everything else was just too much crammed together with no breathing room. The movie does have it's funny moments but with that said I would recommend just watchig it when it airs rather than buying the DVD unless you can get it for $2 or less, shipped.
