The L Word - First Season Yeah!
Created: 19/02/09
The L Word
"Showtime's frank and vibrant television drama THE L WORD details the personal and professional exploits of a group of lesbian and bisexual women in the hip West Hollywood section of Los Angeles. Writer Jenny (Mia Kirshner) is fresh out of college and has just moved to the city to be with her swim coach boyfriend Tim (Eric Mabius). Their neighbors, Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Holloman), are a lesbian couple looking for a sperm donor so they can become parents. Among their friends are closeted tennis player Dana (Erin Daniels), kooky bisexual Alice (Leisha Haley), promiscuous Joan Jett-lookalike Shane (Katherine Moennig), and Bette's recovering alcoholic half-sister Kit (Pam Grier). As Jenny becomes integrated into this group of strong personalities, she begins to challenge her lifelong heterosexuality with a torrid affair with exotic cafe owner Marina (Karina Lombard). Driven by moody direction, provocative storylines, and emotionally engaging characters, THE L WORD is a truly groundbreaking series that delves into issues specific to the lesbian community without sacrificing universality. This collection includes all 13 episodes of the series' addictive debut season."
Do you love QAF? If so then this is the female version! Drama, romance, one night stands, betrayals! This has them all.
Invite some girlfriends over and pop some popcorn.

The First, & possibly the best
Created: 14/08/10
Having many lesbian friends rave about this series, particularly the 1st season, I opted to buy the DVD collection of Season 1 & judge for myself. My friends were not exaggerating. This Showtime Network series follows the lives & loves of a group of Los Angeles friends, who just happen to be lesbians, in a very thoughtful & riveting way. If the series had not continued on for several series, this season alone would've sufficed in trying to cover many issues of interest to gay women, from relationships to family issues to political pressure from the right. Each DVD disc contains 2-3 episodes with the last disc consisting mainly of extras.
Unfortunately, its generally agreed by many fans of the show that it 'jumped the shark' at some point after this season. Where exactly is up to the individual viewer. For me, personally, if the show faltered after this first season then the show shouldn't be judged too harshly. Season One set the bar extraordinarily high.

Pure Entertainment / Incredibly Amazing Show
Created: 09/11/06
The L Word has got to be the best show out there for women, even if you are not a lesbian. It's a breakthrough step for Lesbians and television because it's the only show on television based primarily on the lives of lesbians, bisexuals and transexual people. It's funny, dramatic, has the ability to make you laugh out loud and feel the urge to cry at times. It's very moving and entertaining. I think its an asset to Showtime and should be for everyone who watches it or owns it.
I decided to buy it because I do not have Showtime at home, and the reviews about this show are so incredible that I would be a fool not to have bought the season for myself. I have recently purchased both the 2nd and 3rd seasons on DVD as well. I'm very proud of this show, and the cast is simply amazing.
Watch out for Marina Ferrer everyone...she'll make straight women question their sexuality. HAHA. The characters of the show are just great and any woman can have something in common with one or maybe even all of these characters. They have their flaws and their joys just like any normal person. What am I saying...they are normal people.
The Cast is very proud of the work they have done for this show, and they should be. They are a very diverse group of people who get along perfectly on the show and off. Don't miss the oppurtunity to watch or buy this show for yourself. Good thing to add to a DVD collection. I watch it almost daily.

The first season of this DVD series was awesome! The characters are all some of the best performers that I have ever seen in the entertainment industry. Bette and Alice are my favorite characters however it definitely does not take away from all of the other fine actors and actresses in the show.
Great season for the girls!
