Album Notes
Tool: Maynard James Keenan (vocals); Adam Jones (guitar); Justin Chancellor (bass); Danny Carey (drums).Recorded at Cello Studios, Hollywood, California, The Hook, Big Empty Space and The Lodge, North Hollywood, California."Schism" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.Audio Mixer: David Bottrill.Recording information: Big Empty Space, North Hollywood, CA; Cello Studios, Hollywood, CA; The Hook, Hollywood, CA; The Lodge, North Hollywood, CA.Illustrator: Alex Grey.Unknown Contributor Role: Vince DeFranco.Approaching Tool's LATERALUS with a casual ear would be a careless endeavor, to say the least. The sheer magnitude of the musical and emotional textures is as heady as it is primal. Standing out as one of the defining traits of the Tool sound is Justin Chancellor's hauntingly melodic bass playing, which often launches into a role reversal with the mountainous guitar work of Adam Jones. The best examples of said phenomenon are found in "The Grudge" and "Reflection." Drummer Danny Carey slips easily into the pocket, fearlessly tackling odd time signatures and tasty percussion like few contemporary metal percussionists (best evidenced in "The Patient.") Lyrically, LATERALUS crawls through the cerebral catacombs of vocalist Maynard James Keenan, exploring themes such as the fallout from failed communication ("Schism") and clutching to past pain in a desperate attempt at control ("Grudge"). LATERALUS is yet another art-metal tour de force displaying the collective mastery of Tool.

Tool - Lateralus

Created: 22/10/10
This is one of the greatest progressive metal/art rock albums you could ever buy. Amazing drumming by Danny Carey in songs such as "The Grudge", "Reflection", and of course "Ticks & Leeches". Not to mention it has some of the sweetest album artwork I have ever seen. This album will take you on a musical journey that you are sure to enjoy.

A very unique and kick ass CD.

Created: 10/08/06
Tool is still one of the few bands that still plays original, unique, and different music. They have never sold out and I can't see them doing so for quite some time if ever. This CD in particular is amazing. It isn't just a CD, it's more of an experience as you listen through it. The blend of tribal drums, thundering bass, quiet lyrics, and heavy guitar fits so well.

If you like progressive metal music, then Tool is your band. As you listen through this CD you will find the whole CD to be just simply amazing. Every song works well and runs into the next wonderfully. If you're a Tool fan you will love this CD, but if you're not this CD might just change your mind.

This album is incredible. It is good all the way through. Everything about it is wonderful. If you like Tool, then you pretty much are required to get this album. This CD has some of my favorite Tool songs on it, such as Schism, The Patient, Lateralus, and Reflection. HIGHLY RECOMENDED

AMAZING

Created: 18/12/10
Amazing cd. this disc contains some of the most intelligent material ever recorded. from start to finish is one insane ride of pure metal on acid!!!! Lateralus is by far the best production put out by TOOL and will quite possibly stay that way. I had this disc when it came out but lost it since. I had the itch one day to hear it and youtube wasnt cutting it!!! i had to own it again!!! again... great piece and will be one of my faves for years to come!!! what i can appreciate about this material the most is that i am a musician myself (16 years) and still to this day cannot reproduce my own material in this particular sub-genre of metal!! there is something about this that is so unique that i dont believe can be copied by anyone!!!!

excellent

Most likely the best album ever made by human beings. Practically a religious experience. Let tool take you away with their heavy riffs and beating drums. A must have if you like music. I could go on forever. Just buy it. Seriously.
