Laugh and Learn - About Childbirth (DVD, 2005)

This DVD answered our questions regarding signs and symptoms of labor, and how to do the Lamaze breathing exercises. It gives invaluable advice on practical matters for delivery and recovery. The teacher speaks from years of experience as a labor nurse and lamaze instructor and birth of her own children. My husband and I enjoyed watching it together and it was presented with a little humor so that you do not get bored. There are five segments ranging from 30 to 60 minutes each (approx), so you can do one section and later go back and review the class you want.

Love the video. It is very informative. Teaches everything you would need to know about the signs of labor, labor itself, breathing techniques, pain medications, c-sections, machines in the hospital room, etc. Definitely prepares one to feel like they know about all the different things that could happen during labor to help them make an informed decision as to how they want their labor to go. Sherry (the lamaze teacher) is funny and makes you feel comfortable yet she does not hold back the truth! I would recommend this DVD to anyone who cannot attend a childbirth class, or in addition to the class! This was an excellent purchase!

We purchased this DVD because we could not fit lamaze classes into our schedule, and yet wanted to have a clue about how to deliver our first child! It was VERY convenient in that there are seperate segments of less than an hour each, so we didn't have to sit and watch the entire DVD at once or remember where we left off. And, we could easily go back and review the segments we thought were helpful for us.
I will admit, I knew essentially NOTHING about childbirth before I watched this video. I really did learn alot, from basics (effacement, dilating, medical terms, false or real labor indicators) to the actual lamaze breathing techniques. After watching this, I feel much more comfortable and prepared for going into labor. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who cannot attend an actual lamaze class, or who doesn't have the patience or time for the lengthy courses. Hope this helps!

The woman who hosts this DVD is the most annoying host of any program ever!!! It is hard to learn when you find yourself wishing that the the host would catch on fire or turn into a blimp and fly far far away!!! Sheri Bayles is the hosts name and boy does she love to HOWL and scream into her microphone!! Yes I understand my wife will be doing this during childbirth but Sheri is the most annoying person I have ever viewed on my television!! Avoid this DVD!! Sheri Bayles is a sucky host and is an annoying teacher! The camera work is so bad that many of the displays are hard to see which makes learning even more frustrating! We have many other DVD's about childbirth and all of them are one hundred million times better than this one. PREPARE TO BE ANNOYED!!!! I work in television and I can tell you that the production quality of this DVD at best is VERY POOR! Save your money!!!!!!!

I purchased this DVD because I wanted my husband to be able to get a general idea of what to expect when it comes to labor and delivery. It served that purpose. I would not recomed making this your ONLY for of preparation for childbirth unless you are planning on getting an epidural right away. The DVD does cover some breathing, but not really much else in the way of comfort measures for labor.
