While the take-no-prisoners blues-rock of the first two albums is still prominent in the band's tool box, other implements are beginning to appear. The delicate acoustic whispers that would run through much of ZEPPELIN IV have their folk/blues antecedents here (the lambent "That's the Way," the earthy "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp"), the results of the band's creative encampment in a woodland dwelling. At the same time, the heavier tracks are unprecedented in their ferocious swagger. Robert Plant's bone-chilling battle cry and the band's savage riffing on "The Immigrant Song" do full justice to the song's Viking imagery, and it's easy to believe that the "hammer of the gods" Plant sings about is being swung straight in your direction.

Editorial Reviews
5 Stars - ...Zeppelin were spinning around like a carousel...from the crunchy riff anthems ('Immigrant Song') to blues rollercoasters ('Since I've Been Loving You') to tail-shaking boogie ('Out On The Tiles')...
Q (19941101)

...their music is as ephemeral as Marvel Comics, and as vivid as an old Technicolor cartoon....Their albums refine the crude public tools of all dull white blues bands into something awesome... -Lester Bangs

Going to California

Created: 26/12/09
Third album for that legendary band united in 1967, next to the New-Yardbirds
flop. Leader members Jimmy Page/Robert Plant; initially: Strings/lyrism, renew deep south-blues stuff into new genre : experimental-blasting Rock-Blues-boom ! After two successful, stannic first albums, comes that one more soulful; return-to-basics acoustic/electric stuff, with long guitar cries and corrosive natural/artificial sound-effects ! One could name «immigrant song»; «Since i've been loving you» as Zep classics just before «Stairway to heaven» was on the line coming on fourth label album, their greatest song and musicien-must-known one, reaching «Whole-lotta-love» in popularity !! Nevertheless; even if Led Zeppelin 3 makes a turning-point in band musical orientation to embrase less evident exits definately after 71's Fourth. And last bluesy so-called one for the purist remembering brittain invasion with Blues bands alike John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and later Peter Green's Fleetwood Mack or Rod Stewart Small Faces/Faces until prog-Rock/Glam big crowdy In-the-Air concerts after Woodstock-Isle-of-Wight experiences ! So, for everyone's interest, at the dawn of 1970, music took a virage for good passing from Country-harvest acoustic sound, to electric and electronic-more-artificial-cold than warm intimist Blues-voices, in more closed spaces. For myself (I'm 43), this album remains in-between for group orientation to less successful albums with years (commercially too); excepting maybe «Physical Graphities» in 1975, and Zep last Album : «In through the out door» before death by overdose of member John bonham in 1980. The group, then over; still today sells for millions of nostalgics, and neophytes; the young and old can
rediscovers these immortel tense/less tensive musics over more than a decade
of recordings and touring, and members works afterward with reunions, or as
soloist protagonist-creator story tellers....with Encores, more and more; increasing with years and such rich and cultural success....for all !! S.

Led Zeppelin #3

Volume #3 is a must for Led Zeppelin fans. Just as good as the first 2 and, in my opinion, better than the CDs that followed. It retains the powerful, innovative, and driving sound that propelled Led Zeppelin to te top of rock and roll from the late 60's to the early 80's.

Pure rock and roll, with a beautiful dash of blues makes this a real jewel. Jimmy Page is as innovative as ever and Robert Plant complements him with soulful lyrics. Throw in true giants on bass guitar and drums and you have a thing of beauty...a real keeper!!!

A must have!

The third in the Zeppelin collection that is a must have! While Zeppelin II and IV are considered the best in Zeppelin, III is the under rated album fans seem to come back to later on.
