Includes liner notes by Clayton Riley. There have been numerous attempts at summarizing Phyllis Hyman's career on one disc. Most have been severely flawed, whether it has come down to missing hit singles or poor selection of album cuts. And while Hyman didn't have that many chart hits (at least when compared to several of her contemporaries), there has always been the need for a double-disc compilation that goes deeper -- allowing space for all the major singles and album cuts that deserve more attention. The Legacy of Phyllis Hyman fills that void. Although it might be a little too much for the person who just wants the songs heard on the radio, it's the next best thing to having all of her studio albums (all of which are spotty in varying degrees).~ Andy Kellman

Editorial Reviews
...a bittersweet compilation of some of Hyman's best material....Hyman sang as though her listeners were wrapped in sable and drinking vintage champagne...

Phyllis Hyman.....we will always love you...we miss you

.....what could one say about Phyliss Hyman? It would take all the cyberspace in infinity to talk about the talent, grace, finesse, the vocal range, the versatility, her style....! Phyllis Hyman will always be one of the greats! Her talent was discounted by the Industry, shame on them! She was considered a "B" talent when I think she was "A" all the way. Listen to "Livin' Inside Your Love", the woman's range, and versatility was showcased here, she scat, she took us ever so high, then she'd take us way way down with those deep throaty tones and coos! This 2 disc set gave us the great hits all together. Buy this set...listen to it....I love it so...I have had it in the car and in the drive at work constantly since I bought it! If you love Ms. Hyman...you gotta..repeat gotta have this one! The only sad part about it....after you hear them, you will realize that she will never belt out any more ballads like these....ever again...this is all we will have! That's ok Phyliss, we love you and miss you, and will always place you up high where you belong! God Bless you honey, you made us very very happy, the short time that we had you.....

Remembering Phyllis Hyman

Created: 02/02/08
A master song stylist gone too soon. Phyllis Hyman's voice is rich, exciting, soulful, raw, and haunting. There is no one today that compares to this vocal perfection. Phyllis pours out the very core of her soul in each selection. Anyone listening can feel the pain in remembering a past love and the darkness of being alone.

Phyllis Hyman shared the joys and heartaches of her life for all to hear.

this is one of my favorite singers. she is soft and soulful. she has a beautiful voice. i wish we had more singers like phyllis. it is a shame that more people are not up on ms hyman because they are missing out on a legend. where ever she is i hope she is at peace, and know she is not forgotten by those who appreciate good and soulful music.

Ageless Artist, Ageless Music

I loved Phyllis Hyman's music as a kid back in the '80s and I still get that fuzzy-wuzzy feeling when I heard her music now. Not only is her voice sultry and somewhat woeful (I understand that more so now since I've learned what had happened to her), but the music she made is deep and thoughtful; reflecting the mind and soul of a tragic individual who's talent transcends time and the grave. Her music is like listening to Sade Adu, but with a more soulful flare. This is a nice collection of her music that's sure to bring back a lot of memories for folks at that "thirty-something" age, or for perveyors of QUALITY music. This is definitely one for the music collection shelf.
