Product Information
The Nintendo 64 has seen many racing games, though none are quite like LEGO RACERS. The game, which is inspired by the building block toys, lets players build cars from one of 12 included sets of Legos. There are 24 different tracks to race on, spanning all sorts of imaginative and exciting locations. You can go at it in four racing modes, with the Circuit mode being the most involved. This mode lets you build up points throughout the races, which opens up more tracks and competition. There is also a Time race, which allows you to race against a ghost of your previous performance. The Multiplayer mode lets two people race head-to-head in their own customized vehicles in a split-screen battle. LEGO RACERS features many unique options that possibly due solely to the Lego license make it a fresh and original title.

Great game, just as I remember it from my childhood. I would also like to recommend NES_Headquarters to anyone looking for cartridge based games as I was quite quick to receive it and it was in great condition.

The game itself is a lot of fun, and quite reminiscent of the Mario Kart games in terms of gameplay. In my opinion, it's best enjoyed with other players. It's easy to play but hard to master. The ingame music is fun and really upbeat, and all of it fits the game really well on the menus as well as the various courses. Impressively, the sound never sounds compressed at any point on the N64 version of the game, as far as I've noticed. The car creation is pretty awesome fun and reminiscent of playing with Lego blocks when you were a kid, though there are some limitations on it that don't exist in real life lol. The graphics for its time are pretty good too. hell, I'd say they're still passable by today's standards. They don't look that different from the lego games on the current gen consoles (though the graphics on the PS1 and PC versions are vastly superior.). The circuit mode is fairly short and fairly simple up until the last two circuits, when things start to get a little tricky. When you beat the last circuit there is definitely a feeling of accomplishment.

All around, Lego Racers is a gem of a racing game on a console that had a lot of gems. I recommend it to anyone who likes racing games, Lego games, or just wants a good party game to play with their fellow nerds / and or kids.

All in all, I'd give this game a 4/5. It's great fun and a really well constructed game in almost every way. The exceptions are the ridiculous difficulty jump between circuits 5 and 6 and the fact that there are only 7 circuits in the game.

Waahoooo!

This is the only game I'd ever played on N64 when I rented the system from a video store years ago. At first the car building feature seems limited but when you really start to experiment, you'll discover that one block can make a huge difference how the car handles. I admit to playing this game rather obsessively and often spent over an hour just building cars before starting the circuit. Give this game a chance! Once you start to appreciate the secrets of each track and learn to deal with the subtle changes in the car as it gets damaged, you'll become addicted. I love this game so much, I just bought an N64 and Lego Racers because I never completed the final level!

To look back to simpler days...

Now, perhaps it would be pretentious of me to say that Lego Racers is by this point, a classic retro game. But at eleven years old, and me having recollections of the game myself, I can't help but look back and smile. Amidst discussions of our childhood, a friend of mine had the idea to try to find this fun and underrated game. Now, I say 'underrated' because quite honestly, this game is just that. Now I'm not laying down any claims that this game is fantastic, but there was a time when racing games weren't about realism, looking cool, and having a crappy soundtrack. They were about shortcuts, weapons, they were about FUN. That is exactly what this game was, fun. I urge you, to anyone whether you played this yesteryear, or you are looking for a fun little quirky game to play, this is a great option. Good selection of characters, multiple levels with interesting weaponry to fight your opponents off with, and an overwhelming feeling of fun. I give this game a solid 85/100.

Its a lot of fun building the cars and people but it lacks a little in the racing but not much at all. You can get hours of fun out of this game for sure.
